Would being a Questbridge College Prep Scholar help boost my stats? Like would they see it as an award?
@pokemon1 - In your College Preparation Program 9-12 Program that provides workshops and guides people through the college application process and also gives test prep (throughout the 80% of each year) - do you guide students on affordability for low income families?
Have you estimated travel costs to these schools and how many times a year you could possibly visit home?
@ClarinetDad16 No, I was just a member of the program.
I haven’t estimated the costs yet either. I want to stay in the east coast, preferably where I can take the train home.
@Pokeman1 First of all, focus increases the likelihood that you’ll end up with more impressive awards/recognition in your ecs. Second, it’s a good way of demonstrating passion to colleges…but I guess that only applies if it’s something you genuinely enjoy.
My previous response was somewhat poorly phrased; what I meant was try to do something interesting or impressive with the ecs that you’re truly passionate about.
@ScoobyDooRaccoon I see, thanks! I’m just worried that I won’t be able to find any opportunities by the time I apply to colleges.
I think you’d have as good a shot as any high stat kid for all the Questbridge stuff. (I’m also biased towards Swarthmore and Haverford, since I live within 15 minutes of both. Great schools, beautiful campuses. Wherever you end up, though, you’ll do great!)
@outtahere2017 Do you think haverford would be a high reach for me? Or a low reach or high match?
I think that as long as your scores are where you think they’d be (660-770 is about the middle 50% for each SAT section) and your GPA keeps on an upward trend, Haverford would ~probably~ be a low reach–I feel like Haverford would always be a type of reach to anyone applying.
Another important thing to note is that Haverford places high value on application essays, so you would need to spend an exceptional amount of time on those.
Wishing you the best of luck!
@outtahere2017 thanks a ton! I’ll keep working hard
