Have you talked to your parents about what they will contribute for your college costs, and run the net price calculators on the various colleges of interest?
@ucbalumnus Yes, and they’re good with all of the ones I’m applying to. We’ll also see what type of aid we’ll receive when it comes to that.
I am no expert, but I just got into Barnard and Sarah Lawrence for the Class of 2023. I am going to Barnard. First off, praise for IB. I am an AP student, but I have heard how tremendously rigorous that process is. I will share some of my stats because I just went through this grueling process.
3.96 unweighted GPA, 4.29 weighted GPA (when I applied I think it was a 4.25, this would be improvement from senior year) / 8 AP classes / 32 ACT (which is about a 1440 in SAT) / several leadership roles in 5 extracurriculars, 5 honors societies, volunteer work / intended major: English
-Barnard: I applied ED, got deferred, got in RD. Was my biggest reach school and was super aware that I had a large chance of not getting in. I put in tremendous effort to express my interest, sending more LOCI, interviewing, emailing admissions, visiting.
-Sarah Lawrence: I considered it a safety/on-target school. Super expensive. Good for writing, I got the sense it was much more “creative” than Barnard in a sense that your curriculum was very much up to your discretion - not as structured as Barnard. Ultimately, this was why I was against it because I require structure in my life.
I applied to 11 schools total. 4 were “reach,” 5 were “on target,” and 2 were “almost guaranteed.” I got in 9, waitlisted 1, declined 1. Please DM me if you want to talk more, as a recent applicant I would love to talk to you.
@calintx First, congratulations on Barnard (and Sarah Lawrence)! That’s so exciting, and I hope you love it next year. Thank you for sharing your stats - since mine aren’t the best compared to a lot of other girls who apply, including you, I’m definitely going to try to follow what you’ve said and show the most interest I’m able to (I plan on interviewing/visiting, etc).
I might DM you later on if that’s okay, thank you for the offer! I really appreciate it and congrats again you deserve it!
@gilliangrace Of course, anytime feel free to reach out. Best of luck in your college process because I promise you it all works out how its meant to and thank you!
