Chance me for Bentley (RD applicant)

Hi! This is my first post (moved to “Chance Me” from the official “Bentley University” thread) to college confidential and I would really appreciate as much information as possible . I have dreamt of going to Bentley ever since I heard about it. I have been looking around on college confidential, and I can’t seem to find someone who “matches my profile” so I can chance myself for Bentley, so here I am! But all of that is irrelevant so here are the facts and figures…

Misc. Information

Major: Finance

Race/Ethnicity: Indian (Asian)

State originally from: NJ

College Visit: Yes, I did a registered tour and enjoyed every single second of it

Interview: Yes; My interview went well. It was on campus and with a fellow. She seemed to like me a lot. I went beyond grades and talked about myself and the foundations of my passions for business and the institution a whole. I also talked about my hobbies involving programming and computer science (which drove me to want to get a minor in computer information systems)

Contact with Rep: Yes; I am been in contact with my town’s representative for Bentley. I sent one or two emails regarding questions, signifying my research I put into the college and my update on my college application status. It wasn’t anything bothersome, it was only 2-3 emails. He seemed to enjoy the fact that I was so interested in the school

Essays: I thought they were very impressive as did some advisors. I wrote a unique essay about my name and how it describes me as a person. Humor and a personable element, as well as other interesting essay elements, were included. I talked about who I am as a person and I alluded to the struggles in my life that I hope to overcome in college.

Financial Aid: Yes; I am applying, but due to my parents’ moderately high income, I may not get much

Grades and Scores

Unfortunately, my grades are down trending, which is a setback as far as I am concerned. However, I took 7 AP classes in my first three years of high school and 3 right now (10 total, out of 33 my school has to offer), and they were VERY challenging courses.

_//Coursework_

Previous AP Courseload: AP Computer Science A, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP US History I/II (counted as two courses in my school), AP Microeconomics, AP Physics I

Current AP Courseload: AP Physics C, AP Human Geography, AP US. Government and Politics

_//GPA_

My GPA (my school uses a point average system, but I converted everything to a 4.0 scale) has been, as I have said down trending. I have As and Bs with a few Cs put in. My GPAs have been separated with commas signifying each year for three years, with the final GPA being the cumulative GPA so far

UW GPA: 3.83, 3.48, 3.17 … 3.49
W GPA: 4.08, 4.14, 3.79 … 4.00

So far, my senior grades have been similar to my junior year grades (As and Bs with very few Cs). I hope that my rigor of classes makes up for my low grades.

“C - Grade” classes: Honors Language Arts III, AP Physics I, AP Calculus BC … this year AP Physics C (first quarter)

I also skipped precalculus, so I ended up taking AP Calculus BC my junior year. I self-studied Multivariable Calculus and took Linear Algebra at my local community college.

_//Standardized Tests_

ACT:

English: 34
Math: 34
Reading: 32
Science: 33

Closing

I apologize for the long post, but from a student who strives to learn more about the world of business and numbers, I really want to get into Bentley. At first, I thought I’d get in for sure and I was focusing on getting merit scholarships. But looking at my grades brought my self-esteem down and I just want admission at this point, let alone merit scholarships. I really want to go to this school, and prove that life gives me a second chance to fix my mistakes. I never really had a dream that I could see until this college entered my life. Please give me closure on what I yearn to know. Honestly, I don’t care if I get the bitter truth… that I won’t get in or my chances are low. I just want closure so I can fall asleep at night. I just want the truth, and this is one of my last ways of getting that. Thanks again, and I hope everyone who took the time and patience to read this has a wonderful day

Good luck to all other applicants!

You have a great chance at getting in. Your SAT is well above average.

Even with my down-trending, low grades? (Also, it was the ACT)

You will get in. I live 15 minutes from the school and am familiar with it. I did not love it but I wish I did.

But it seems like I won’t because of my Cs in my classes. They hurt my GPA heavily and put me at the low spectrum. I’m just really afraid and scared, that’s all.

You’re GPA matters, but to this degree you should be able to keep up with a little under their average. Your ACT is high enough to excuse temporary lapse in grades and if you don’t NEED financial aid it will increase your chances. Just wait for results, but I’m fairly confident you’ll get in.

Thanks for the helpful feedback! Anyone else’s feedback would be much appreciated!

I think you will definitely get into Bentley based on what I see on Naviance for my community. Your math scores are very strong and your self studying is impressive.

Accepted! Presidential Scholarship
