A classmate of mine started a charity and I have been in charge of planning our annual gala benefitting a local charity since sophomore year (2 years). We were able to raise close to $60,000 for the two charities we have helped since I have been on board. The charity is run entirely by teenagers.
Relay for Life Team Captain ('15-'16)
Organized fundraising events for my team. My team raised $5,212, was third out 112 teams for most money raised, and was honored with a Gold Award at the event for raising over $5,000. Personally, I raised $1,200, was sixth out of 1,092 participants for most money raised, and was honored with a Jade Award at the event for raising over $1,000.
Campaign volunteer for Cory Booker (2013)
Saint Francis Mission ('14-'15)
I organized and created toiletry packages for the homeless. I handed out over 200 packages to local homeless in the winter.
Internship with a judge for the Federal Court of Appeals ('16-'17)
Clubs
Yearbook ('13-'17) (Will most likely be senior editor)
Student Government Treasurer ('15-'16)
I was also an assistant religious education teacher during my freshman and sophomore years.
Also, I know my recommenders really well (English Teacher and Guidance Counselor) so I think they will write me good LOR’s.
I have visited campus and definitely shown interest.
Lastly, I am a really strong writer and I think my essay is definitely going to boost my chances of acceptance.
My main concern with applying to GW is my GPA because it is below their average. I feel like my EC’s are ok because the charity I am a part of has been really successful and I also have other EC’s besides that. I’ll be applying to GW as a Political Science and American History double major (most likely) and I also want to go to law school.
