Chance me for CLA!!

I submitted my application for UMN last Wednesday, but I’d still like to know my chances.

I’m applying to CLA in history and a backup in poli sci.

Current senior in high school and out of state.

Gpa is terrible: uw: 3.56, w: 3.75
Act: 30 (Took that one in one sitting without studying. Retaking it in October and am currently taking a course to study for it)

Ap’s: Euro (3), English Language (3), Apush (5), Gov, Econ, Lit, Physics 1, Calc AB. (Last five Ap’s I’m taking right now so haven’t taken the test yet.)

Extracurriculars: Speech and Debate since freshman year and won 9th place at the state tournament for debate.
Youth Symphony for all 4 years of high school. Last year got into highest level of orchestra and toured with them all over Europe and played at notable concert halls and music festivals.
Founded Model U.N. at my high school this year and am vp.
Joined LINK and club to help refugees this year.
Joined Mock Trial last year, and am current head of pretrial and president this year.
Got a job last year and still working.
Over 300+ community service hours with medical organization and peer court program.

Terrible grades sophomore and junior year, hence the bad gpa. Had medical issues and wrote about that in special circumstances box.

I really hope I get in, so what are my chances???

@dannydevito you don’t provide your class rank but I’m thinking you are ok for CLA. My D1 got in last year with a 3.4 uw and a 33 ACT. Clearly the ACT score helped her but you are already above the 75th percentile with a score of 30. And, like you, she had medical issues earlier in her high school career and was able to turn it around - and wrote about that in her personal statement/special circumstances section.

I’m guessing that the biggest concern from an admission standpoint would be whether your academics are going to be strong going forward. For that reason as well as your own preparation, senior year is going to be very, very crucial for you. At the very least, if you happen to be waitlisted pending current academic progress you can show them your mid-year transcript and appeal the decision. More importantly, you will have proven to yourself that you are back on track and will feel very confident and prepared for your college years.

But as is, you have a lot of strong points with all the AP’s and with the EC’s and with that 30 ACT - and of course, if you happen to blow away the ACT in October that will definitely help as well

Good luck to you!

@Mamelot my school doesn’t rank, but its good to hear that thank you!

@dannydevit0 my D1’s school didn’t rank either and her hs counsellor told me that this is getting more common. So again, your situation very similar to hers.

Solid lock. If you don’t hear in October, I’d be surprised. You look like a great addition to our campus, and I’m eager to hear the news when you get in. Let us know! Good luck!

NorCal buddddies :)!!!
