Chance me for Columbia, Barnard, NYU please!

I know I'm a sophomore, but based on the info I have so far:

freshman gpa- 92 took all 3 honors classes offered- honors english, honors alg 2, and honors foreign language (science and history weren't tracked)
sophomore gpa so far- 93, i am taking all 5 honors classes offered- honors chem, honors english, honors precalculus, honors foreign language, and honors govt (there are no AP classes offered to sophomores, but i plan to take all 3 APs offered to juniors next year, and self-study another one)

school doesnt rank bc there are only 69 people in the student body

i estimate to get at least a 2200 on my SATs

i plan to take 3 SAT subject tests- Chem, Math 1, and Hebrew Language; and maybe also Physics

P.S. i go to a very small, private religious high school and end school at 5:00 pm each day, so i also take 4 religious classes per day (which i also get A's/A-'s on)

leadership: president and founder of social action club in school this year

extracurricular activities: creative writing, write for school litmag and school newspaper, submit to contests and other writing websites, semifinalist in international open poetry contest sponsored by the world poetry movement, finalist in a regional contest for awareness about mental illnesses, drama club in school both this year and last year, will hopefully continue thru the end of high school and will get 2 credits for it on my transcript by the time i graduate from high school, hip hop club this year, litmag committee this year, student ambassador committee last year, art club last year, summer travel/leadership program this summer, thinking of getting an EMT license in the summer before senior year, and may volunteer as an EMT (I wanna go into premed), will hopefully work as a camp counselor that summer also.

community service: school requires 15 hours per year, which i am currently on par with; plan to start volunteering with a special-needs organization next year

hooks: speak 2 other languages- russian and hebrew

I am female, from the East Coast
I am not a legacy
I am white
I am not a first generational college student (my parents came here from russia a few years before i was born so they went to college in russia, but i guess it still counts as me not being a first generation college student, even though im the first one to go to college in america in my family)

bumpppppppp

This is all assuming, as you are telling us in your post, that you recieve a 2100-2200 SAT score or higher. And you’re a sophomore – You have no idea how your GPA will change, or what you’ll decide the next two years. If you’re set on these schools though, and you believe you can maintain your grades all through high school – I will chance you – With all these assumptions of course.

NYU – Great chance, your ECs and GPA are right on track. And if you hit that SAT score range. Match.

Columbia – Eh, it’s a reach. Not that you won’t get in (you definitely can) but as it is an Ivy, it is hard to predict your decision. Furthermore, a 2200-2400 SAT is more competitive for Columbia – If this is your dream school, work hard and get a high SAT – Right now, you have a small chance as you are in the ballpark (assuming the SAT scores are stellar.)

Barnard – Good chance. Match. I’d say that in addition, if you want to take classes at Columbia and don’t get in, you can still do so through being a student at Barnard. Your ECs show passion, dedication and leadership – Barnard LOVES that in women. Same with the high GPA and ASSUMED high SAT.

Good luck! Relax though – You’re really only a sophomore.

i’m not an expert, but my sister is currently attending Barnard and her credentials were very similar to yours…she was rejected at Columbia, though.

you should definitely find a way to distinguish yourself. my sister was deferred at Barnard but was eventually accepted because she was named as an intel semifinalist. your ECs will definitely help you stand out since they’re so extensive :D

idk much about NYU lol
good luck!

thanks guys!
also, which of the Columbia schools (CAS, School of General Studies, etc.) would it be easier/harder for me to get into, based on my stats?

no idea if you’ll get in or not, but if you’re going to premed, maybe you should do some science-y EC’s too!

does being an EMT count/look good?

bummppppppppp

You would not be eligible for application to Columbia General Studies as a freshman. It is for returning, non-traditional, students. If you apply to Columbia University for a place in its freshman class, it must either be to Columbia College or to the Engineering School. It is also not appropriate to “chance” you as a sophomore. Just work your hardest in school.

Thanx yea I’m going to apply to Columbia College hopefully in 2 years
