You may just have to be patient and wait.
I would be so surprised if I was rejected from CS…
high reach probably
@nadinem123 Really? Now my stomach hurts :-&
Why would you be so surprised if you didn’t get accepted? You didn’t take calculus and your statistics put you far from being a lock.If I were you I would have taken a calculus course at a CC this semester. .
Your rank and GPA are pretty good and while you do have good ECs, none of them really relate to Comp Sci. It is also a problem that you haven’t taken Calc, and your ACT Math (unless it improved on your last test) is pretty low for CS. You have a decent chance, assuming your essays were very good, but I wouldn’t be shocked if you didn’t get in.
@danfer91 If you take any courses at a CC you lose automatic acceptance. My grades in honors math should make up for the lack of Calc, I didn’t take it because of the route in my hs. @aspiringsenior05 I will improve my ACT math, but UT has to accept me. If they don’t let me in the college of natural sciences (CS is in there) I will just delete the application. My ACT and stats are well above the average for UT
@cappex Well yes they have to accept you since you are top 7%, and your scores are higher than average for the university, but maybe not enough for CS. Some schools are just harder to get into. People get denied from Business, Engineering, and CS with 32’s and in the top 5%. There are only so many spots and there are hundreds of qualified applicants. CS in particular is overflowing, the students already here have a hard time getting CS classes already.
@danfer91 So if I do get in, it may not be wise to attend since I may not get classes? Which would mean staying for an extra year or two and getting a bad GPA? There is no way I would go there if I didn’t get in to CS.
I’m a freshman CS major and I have had no trouble getting the classes I need. I think the situation has improved a lot in the last few years.
@Austinwannabe Messaged with more concerns ==
“@danfer91 If you take any courses at a CC you lose automatic acceptance.”
Who told you that?
My daughter took CC summer classes after 11th grade due to HS schedule conflict, and she was still an automatic admit is 12th grade.
Also, she took a couple of CC summer classes after 12th grade before she started UT, and it was just fine.
Do you know that UT accepts HS students from dual credit programs with associate degree from CC as freshmen? Including Freshmen scholarships if they qualify?
@Ya Ya - There is a lot of chatter about this on the A & M website. If you are taking CC courses during HS to satisfy HS credit and potentially college credit that is not a problem but many people have posted that if you start taking CC after HS graduation you are then considered a transfer student with those sets of rules.
I re-read the topic. Yes, I forgot that it was a gap year. Sorry about it.
Anyway you are allowed to take CC classes after graduation if you are admitted right after high school.
I called UT admission office after graduation and asked if she could take CC classes. I was told she could. A friend of hers who was admitted to TexasTech also took CC classes after graduation (her mom called TexasTech admission and asked), no problem with admission as freshman and scholarships.
It was 2012. I doubt the rules changed.
Cappex. Your have a CLEP Calculus option.
https://clep.collegeboard.org/exam
CLEP can be taken any time. Easier than AP, passing score is 50. Doesn’t have to be claimed as credit, just for information that you are Calculus ready.
