Chance me for Cornell, UPenn, Hopkins, and Northwestern

Hi guys,

These are my dream schools so if you could chance me that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

school doesn't rank (I go to a private school)

11 AP classes, currently taking the most rigorous coarse load possible

- Editor of school newspaper/ editor in chief of International News section

Other:

Hooks: Region(south), maybe sports? I am asian lol

Teacher Recs: They were possibly good....Haha I actually have no idea

Essays: touching and honest. You get a glimpse of my life story (moved a lot and how that changed me, and a later flashback/reflection that brought out the little girl I once was)

Major: Business, maybe minor in Statistics or something

Will chance back! Thanks

BUUMMP

Bump

You have a lot of APs and your SAT is kind of low for Ivy League. Your GPA is not amazing either. Look up some of the articles about Ivy Leagues discriminating against the many Asian candidates. They basically say Asians need amazing scores and yours aren’t.

@whuffy‌

But I’m not applying to the top tier ivies, and for Cornell my SAT is higher than the 50th percentile of those accepted. It’s true that asians will have a disadvantage in college admissions, but my friend who graduated last year was asian and got into Cornell (my top choice) with a lower SAT/GPA than me so I have hope lol.

Bump

Your chances are pretty solid I would say! I usually see all these perfect profiles with no unique EC’s. Your EC’s look pretty impressive to me! Keep up the good work and good luck! Also could you chance me back? Thanks :)

Northwestern: Reach
Cornell: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Hopkins: Reach

I am sorry but you have a dismal SAT score, GPA, and below average extracurriculars for these top tier schools.

@Harvardreamss‌

Thanks! I will be sure to chance you back

@illinoisgolf‌

Lol fair enough since these are all of my reach schools. I know my scores aren’t perfect but the good thing is that I have a lot more EC’s that I felt too lazy to write down. Plus one plus side is that my weighted GPA is quite high :)

For your demographic group (Asian Female) you test scores are about 10% below the mean…so, I would say you are on medium reach for the two Ivy schools. That said, my daughter had a similar SAT, actually I think a 2160, (but higher GPA)and is a freshmen at Yale–so you never know.

I don’t know why everyone’s being so harsh…

I think your SAT score should be fine for Hopkins/Cornell, but Northwestern and UPenn will be at least mid reaches. I think that Wharton will be very tough (it’s not that you’re a bad applicant, Wharton is just extremely competitive), and Northwestern in general is very competitive, but if your essays are excellent you may have a shot at either of them.

My opinion:

Johns Hopkins - High Match/Low Reach
Cornell - High Match/Low Reach
Northwestern - Mid Reach/High Reach
University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) - High Reach

Your SAT score may limit you at Northwestern and Wharton, but I don’t think it should be too much of an inhibiting factor at the other schools. While it’s not outstanding for any of the above schools, it is certainly good enough for Hopkins and Cornell, and I think it should be good enough for Northwestern. Unfortunately, your race really won’t help you out in this scenario (at least you’re not applying for Bio/Biochem(?)), but I that that you have at least a glimmer of hope for all of these schools. Good luck!

@micmatt513‌

Yeah, as of now I’m only applying to Northwestern and UPenn as ultimate reaches and I honestly don’t expect to get in. And I am definitely not applying to Wharton. But the two schools that I actually really want to get into are Cornell and Hopkins. And trust me, I know my race will not help in admissions LOL. For hooks I meant to say that maybe the college admissions officers will like that I’m a person of asian descent doing triple jump?

Anyways, your post seems very realistic and pretty accurate based on the scores statistics for each school, so thanks for the feedback!

@boolaHI‌

Congrats to your daughter! If I may ask, what is her ethnicity?

She is part Asian part also part Native American.

Oh, if it’s any assistance her older sister had a SAT 100 points higher, and was accepted at just a single Ivy. The younger daughter was also accepted at Dartmouth and Brown-but I think had a better overall application.

@boolaHI‌

That sounds like a lovely combination. I have a half Native American/half white friend who is stunning ;:wink:

@boolaHI‌

That’s very interesting. I guess with the admissions process you never know. And you must be very proud of your daughters; they are very accomplished! =D>

Indeed, I would say something about apples and apple trees, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Best to you…
