Demographics: White female, medium sized non-competitive public school in Philadelphia, member of the LGBT community, oldest of five siblings with many household responsibilities (which I discuss in my application)

Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering

Class rank: School does not do specific rankings, but my counselor notified me that I’m in the top 2% in a class of 375

UW/W GPA: 3.94 UW, 4.9 W

Coursework: APs (6)-- United States History (4), Computer Science Principles (4), Computer Science A (5), Calc BC (TBD), Physics: Mechanics (TBD), Physics: Electricity and Magnetism (TBD). All other classes are honors or independent study, disregarding required Health and Phys Ed classes.

Awards:

Basic Stuff: National Honors Society, National Merit Commended (SI of 218, so close), AP Scholar, Distinguished Honor Roll

Theater: A few regional awards for high school theater.

Open Minds: Placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in regional innovation / invention competition.

Coding Competitions: 1st Place at Widener University Coding Competition, a few others at various colleges

Extracurriculars:

Colonial Players (Theater, Senior Leader): I am a dedicated member of my school’s theater program. I have been in the cast of all of the available productions throughout high school, as well as assisting with construction and painting.

National Honor Society (President): I am responsible for creating fundraisers, running meetings of over 120 students, and serving as a liaison between my school and my community. Lots and lots and lots of service hours.

Singfest Volunteer Counselor: I volunteer at a chorus camp for young kids, and teach them songs and movements. We also put on a yearly concert for the community. About 70 hours of service per summer, for 4 summers.

Web Development (Developer): I have developed multiple websites that have been implemented by my school. Last year a team and I created a site for our Senior Trip, where we organized payment, trip info, online permission slips/ forms, roommate assignments, etc. This year I’m developing a site for my theater program to also track payments, provide a new registration technique for the shows, and track forms, medical info, etc. Lots of hours and one of my favorite extracurriculars.

Paid Word: I work as an artist for a local toy store. I do different art personalizations on products for customers with paint pens! About 15 hours a week.

Computer Science Competition Club (VP): As a part of my school’s most advanced team, I travel to different colleges and participate in competitions against other schools.

Principal’s Leadership Council: The PLC is a group that is hand-picked by our principal. We meet with him once a month to discuss ways to improve our school and make kids happier.

Congregation Or Ami Federation of Temple Youth (VP): I am responsible for writing monthly newsletters and coordinating various activities in the synagogue for our congregation.

Summer Programs: (Oldest to most recent)

CU Boulder Aerospace Engineering Program: A two month long program where I lived on campus at the University of Colorado. We learned A LOT - fluid dynamics, lots of engine stuff, etc. Super fun!

Johns Hopkins Courses: I took two undergraduate courses at Johns Hopkins: Astrophysics and Data Structures in Java. I did well in both and earned 7 credits.

Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation: A program that exposes students to the various focuses of engineering. Earned 3 credits. (10 total from Hopkins)
