hiya! this is my first post so i'm not sure how well this will go...

anyway, i am a high school junior planning to apply to 9 or 10 different schools. i have two safeties, four matches and four reaches (no ivies though) that i plan to apply to. my family is lower-middle class and we live in a relatively small and conservative town (around 60,000 people). i want to major in english at a liberal arts school with a focus in writing.

my top choices are davidson college, washington and lee, richmond university, or centre college. the rest of my choices are either in-state or accept up to 80% of their applicants (one accepts 95%) so i don't feel TOO nervous about those...

i'd really appreciate any chances!! please be honest.

ACADEMICS
Grades: i am not the most impressive academics-wise, i'll admit. but my grades have improved over the years which i am proud of. in the past i mostly got high Bs and have recently been getting As with an occasional high B.

Courses: by the time i graduate i will have taken all honors classes when offered, and 3 AP courses in Language, Literature, and Spanish. i didn't have any time left in my schedule for anything else.

SAT: i'm taking the SAT for the first time in a week so i don't have a definite score on that. i am aiming for a 1800 - 1900.

GPA: so far for this school year i have a 4.8 (weighted) gpa and plan to boost it up to at least a 4.9 by the end of the year. i think my overall gpa is somewhere between a 3.5 - 3.7, but that's as of last year because i haven't had access to my transcripts for this past semester.

Class Rank: my class rank is in the top 27% and hopefully top 25% once i get my new class ranking from my transcripts.

EXTRACURRICULARS
freshman year:
- accepted into a fine arts program for creative writing. i go there half of the day to study creative writing in a class of 10 students. around 10% or 15% of applicants are accepted into the program. (also, because i spend half of my day there, i only take two classes a semester. this means i don't take too many APs at my regular high school.)
- got a poem published in a national teen literary magazine.
- joined book club, but soon left since none of the books we read were too interesting and it was all chosen by faculty rather than students.

sophomore year:
- won an honorable mention in a national poetry contest.
- won an honorable mention and a gold key in the scholastic art and writing awards.
- attended the kenyon review young writers workshop on a full merit- and need-based scholarship.
- played a minor role in the school musical (a silly girl from beauty and the beast).

junior year:
- became editor of an international literary magazine created by teens.
- won school poetry out loud competition.
- won three honorable mentions and a silver key in the scholastic art and writing awards.
- founded and became president of the school GSA. we plan on hosting a fundraiser for LGBT homeless youth charities and we also want to plan anti-prom next year.
- i plan on attending some sort of writers workshop again this summer.
- joined a church. i know it doesn't seem like an extracurricular but it was a big step for me and might not be in the norm? i'm not sure if that counts for anything though.

in my senior year i plan on:
- joining NHS if accepted (i missed it this year by .05 of a GPA point... sigh).
- continuing as president of the GSA.
- becoming president of the conservation club, which i have already been assigned for in advanced.
- attending another writing workshop.
- creating a literary magazine for young or unpublished (high school, college or above) writers with some friends.
- possibly directing a play, although that idea is still in the works.

all four years:
- member of spanish club.
- member of conservation club.

work experience:
- none. i plan on getting a summer job this year and next. however i do not have a car for transportation during the school year and there is no public transportation where i live, which prevents me from getting a year-round job. and once i do get a car i will be responsible for picking up my siblings from their schools and babysitting them during the year.

that's all i have to add. thanks a bunch!
