Chance Me for Duke Early Decision

I’m applying ED to Duke. I want to major in Biomedical Engineering so I will be applying to the Pratt school of engineering which I hear is slightly harder to get into then the Trinity school.

Me:
White male
Texas
Not doing FAFSA or applying for financial aid
Very competitive public high school

GPA:
My highschool’s system is weird so I’m not sure. The highest possible GPA you can have is a 6.547 and that’s if you have made straight A’s in all honors or AP classes. I have a 6.45 which puts me in the top 7.5%ish of my class.

I have taken all honors or AP classes when offered. We are required to have 3 “elective” classes (out of 7) per semester per year which are weighted 1 point lower than the normal classes (i.e Calculus, English, etc.). This system explains the wonky GPA system. That means:

Freshman year: 4 honors
Sophomore year: 3 honors, 1 AP
Junior: 4 AP
Senior: 6 AP

ACT:
35 superscore
34 single score

Math: 31
Grammar: 34
Science: 36
English:35

Duke says that they “consider the highest scores per section but will not recalculate the composite”.

SAT Subject Tests:
American History: 750
English: 770

AP scores:
APUSH: 4
English: 5
Physics 1: 4
Statistics: 5

Extracurriculars:
Eagle Scout
Chess Club vice president Junior year and president Senior year
Interned at a doctor’s office for 3 weeks
Speech and Debate for Sophomore and Junior year
Fed homeless with a local group once a week for a year
Currently a student leader at the local food bank (started at the beginning of fall senior year)
Active real estate agent (took close to 180 hrs of education + passed state and national exam to get license)

I was also an Assistant Senior Patrol leader in my boy scout troop for a year.

Awards:
National Merit Semifinalist
Eagle Scout

Essay:
My essay is mediocre right now…I’m working on trying to improve it though.

Letters of rec:
One from sophomore English teacher
One from senior Biology teacher
One from chess club teacher

They should turn out decent but I’m not expecting anything incredible.

Please be honest and don’t sugarcoat it. Thank you for helping! I’m trying to decide if I have a decent shot applying ED.

If you’re applying for engineering, you should definitely try to take more SAT science/ath Subject tests. IMO, the history/english tests won’t demonstrate how good you distinguished you might be as a potential engineer.
