Hi! I’m a rising senior that is interested in a Political science or International Relations major. It would be great if you guys could chance me or recommend some other schools to apply to.
Basic info: I am an Asian female who attends a large and competitive public high school in a upper middle class neighborhood.
APs:
9th - whap 4
10th - human geo 5, chinese 5, psych 5
11th - apes, apush, lang, macro, comp gov
12th - lit, stat, us gov, micro, bio, comp sci principles
GPA: unweighted 4.00, weighted 4. 48
Class rank: ranks haven’t been finalized yet but i’m probably in top 5-10%
ECs:
- Speech and debate: team captain, ranked top 10 on nsda online rankings in my event and have reached elimination rounds at yale, harvard, glenbrooks, blue key, TOC, nsda nationals, ncfl nationals
- School newspaper: section editor and founding member; now over 30 active journalists
- Speech and debate camp founder: i’m currently marketing this so we only have raised a few thousand.
- Youth grassroots political organization: co-founder, launched petitions, organized town hall meetings with local politicians
- Recruitment leader on local Sunrise Movement: increased membership by 54% under my ‘tenure” (is that what i call it?)
- Foreign language school: graduated valedictorian in sophomore year, came back as a teacher assistant
- English teacher in Manchuria, China: over 500 volunteering hours
- Research intern at nearby university: studied artificial intelligence and virtual reality. worked on an AI moving coloring game
- Health occupation students of america: volunteered at local nursing homes
ECs 8 and 9 are unrelated to my major. Is it okay If I still put them on my app?
All of the colleges that I’m applying to offer some kind of merit scholarship. If I don’t get merit scholarships then I have to go to an in-state public university. Additionally, I’m not going to get much need based aid because I’m from the upper middle class.
Please be brutally honest. I really to need to know if I can get scholarships to these schools: JHU, Duke, Vanderbilt, Claremont McKenna, WashU, USC, NYU, Emory, American, George Washington
thanks!
