Congrats on all your accomplishments. Amazing. You posted before.

Based on your ACT I’d say you have little chance if you submit. Your chances could be better if you go TO.

JHU is tough. But you are a go getter. Make sure you have targets and safeties. You, not the school, will make your future. You’re off to a great start.

Also you know who places best in DC…I was told by a professor at W&L.

Sewanee and W&L. So put them on your consideration set with W&L test optional. Look at the Johnson Scholarship.

No definitely! I think my test score is the only thing that brings me down, I’ve struggled in determining which schools to do TO for and which to not. Do you think I should change my option and do TO for the following:

JHU
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
UPenn
Columbia
Tufts
UChicago

Do you have any matches or safeties? My daughter applied to JHU with an UWGPA 3.9 34 act and was rejected (9 AP’s).

Here is my full list:

Georgetown (deferred)
Yale
Boston University
New York University
Johns Hopkins
George Washington
Florida State University
University of Florida
Vassar
Tufts
Harvard
Princeton
Upenn
Columbia
University of Virginia
Boston College
Northeastern (deferred)
University of Miami
Claremont McKenna
Pomona College
University of California Berkeley
University of California Los Angeles
University of Chicago
University of Michigan
Fordham (accepted)
American University
Florida International University (accepted)
Wake Forest
Vanderbilt
Rice University
Northwestern

I really don’t know if I should switch my schools to TO, I don’t have a BAD score at all and I want them to see it, but it might hurt me still? idk

In my mind, everyone of those schools should be TO because you are far below the 25th percentile.

Some may disagree as you are a URM - but they’re not close.

I hope you applied to target/safety schools because it’s likely each of these schools will reject you…not that you’re not great, but they have tons of kids who meet their averages they reject and you are below - but make up for it with great ECs.

But in my mind, with this list, you could very well be shut out - so I hope your actual list has some safeties. If not, there’s still time.

OK - let’s work with this - you already have acceptances so that’s great - if you can afford them.

I assume that FIU for you - so that’s great. That’s all you need.

Gtown defers everyone they don’t take in EA - so they reject no one. Fingers crossed but doubtful.

GW - maybe

AU - if you demonstrated interest. I hope you applied for the Frederick Douglas Scholarship.

If i were to guess, I’d say no to the rest but again, that’s my guess - I’m not an AO and I don’t know how the URM part plays in. I’ll credit you here - if you don’t try, it can’t happen - and you have tried.

it’s smaller - but have you looked at the FAU Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter?

What about cost? I assume you are full pay - because schools like AU, GW don’t meet need and the out of state publics (like UCs) you’ll get at most a small scholarship and these will be well over $60K a year, etc.

It’s great you have FIU in the bag and Fordham if you can afford it (they don’t meet need).

Good luck.

I just got into the University of Miami with a scholarship!

I was thinking about emailing and switching to test-optional at the following schools:

  1. Harvard
  2. Johns Hopkins
  3. Yale
  4. UPenn
  5. UChicago
  6. Pomona College
  7. Northwestern

Tufts and Vassar’s average act are 32 - 34 so I’m not sure if I should also request to go test options for them?

We’ll I would BUT I didn’t see you getting into Miami.

So I have no clue.

Can you afford Miami ? They do meet need.

Congrats to you.

What do you mean you didn’t see me getting into UMiami?

I received the Presidential Scholarship and Bright Futures. I’m currently working with them regarding need scholarships as they didn’t include it in my financial aid package for some reason.

I read my previous note and I told you I’m glad you glad you got into FIU and I could see the others as no. Read the previous messages.

Congrats. That’s awesome.

That’s why the chance mes are not relevant. Just the schools are !!

Let me update. The list was long. There are some like FSU you’ll get in AU. GW. Miami I would have thought marginal.

U are awesome

URM helps a lot. But how much I dunno

Listen u laid it all out there. That’s awesome.

You’ll have great opportunities. U already do.

Keep us posted

Ps hope u applied to the Frederick Douglas at AU.
