Hi everyone! I was hoping you all would be able to give me some guidance on if you think I will get accepted into Umass Amherst for a Sustainable Food and Farming Major:

GPA: 3.54
APs: Gov and APUSH
Course load has been pretty normal
I have a bunch of extra curriculars:
-VP of a political club
-Gay straight alliance member
-President of Recycling/Green Club
-work a part time job (have been for two years in an apple orchard)
-do a lot of work within my town (election worker, serve on a committee)

  • interned for a state rep.
  • do a lot of work within two non profits
  • did a paid internship over the summer (farm internship)
  • other leadership in Relay for Life
  • did DECA
    My SAT score is pretty low
    I have a recommendation letter from two teachers (one is a Umass alumni) and from the State Representative I interned for
    I visited the school during one of their Fall visit days and shadowed a student within the Stockbridge School of Agriculture

“My SAT score is pretty low”

My recollection is that the SAT (or ACT) is required at UMass Amherst so you might need to tell us what it is.

I don’t know the situation at UMass Amherst, but I have seen some other universities where farming is a bit easier to get into than some other majors. This might help you and suggests that it is well worth an application. I do think that you need somewhere else for a safety.
