Chance me for Exeter

Hi, I’m a international student from Brazil trying to get into Exeter. I’m currently in 12th grade but I asked to be considered to 11th.

My essays were pretty good, I portrayed the message I would like to pass on each of the prompts. In my view, my interview was good. I was scared, because of my English and I remember the interviewer saying to me that it had already been 30 minutes and I was speaking fully in English and very well, and that calmed me down. My interviewer was also great and the conversation went well.

About my profile. My school doesn’t have clubs, neither extracurricular activities options but I manage to have quite a few acomplishments:

  1. I speak fluent portuguese, understantind/reeding/conversation level in Spanish and English
  2. 3 years of model UN and held positions as Secretary-General and Chairperson
  3. 12 years of dance (but currently not active)
  4. During the years 2015 and 2016, when I was in the 6th and 7th grade, I worked as an assistant teacher in the baby ballet class at the place where I took dance classes.
  5. 6 years in exeprience of videomaking, and I did win a “Best Production” award in a national competition in 2017
  6. 13 years of writing at least 1 hour a day and I also publish a book (that I wrote beetween 4 and 8 years old) when I was eight.
  7. 3 years of soccer
  8. I was chosen for two years by my teacher to tutor history pre-tests
  9. I own a relatively new store on the print-on demand website Redbubble.
  10. I was recently enrolled at an after school Introduction to Politics online course, consisting of 5 modules, which explain the origin of politics, power relations, freedom, as well as aspects of politics such as the concept and history of socialism, social democracy and neoliberalism.
  11. In my Middle school carrer I was for 3 and a half years in a group of young people called “AMAR”, where we got together once a week to do group dynamics, to discuss topics like values and morals, and twice a year we collected money and went to visit nursing homes, day care centers and institutions that welcome children during and after treatment for cancer and other types of illness.

I didin’t send SSATs grades, but my school gpa were beetween 3.1 and 3.5 along the past three years.

In this time of waiting I’m thinking a lot about my chances of getting in, specially being international. I would love to know your imput in my chances.

There are a couple of key points to consider: there are very few spots in 11th grade and many go to athletes, the acceptance rate is very low for all students and which is why you are advised to apply to a broad range of schools, middle school activities are probably irrelevant, it is hard to compare school systems but if your grades are on a 4.0 scale they are probably not high enough. Finally, if you are applying for financial aid there are even fewer spots. Best of luck with the admissions process.

I really shoud’ve applied sooner, in my 9th year. I understand the few spots especially in 11th grade, this is one of my fears in this whole process. Many activites I did all my life or since middle school so I put them there (and the one exclusive to middle school I put in the additional information, because they were important to me). Now about the grades, my school is in a % system: the “honor” categories is for 80-100% in every class (we have 13-17 classes all year round, every year) and in 2 of my 3 years of transcript I was in this range of grades. Thank you for your review - and the best of luck too.
