Chance me for Exeter

Hello everybody,

I am an 8th grader applying to start Exeter for 9th grade in the upcoming school year. I live in Paris, France, where I attend the American School of Paris (I don’t know if this will help). I’ll split everything into categories to make it easier to read.

Grades:

This year has great so far, this semester, I have gotten an A+ in Algebra 1, Science, Social Studies and English, and an A in French Intermediate 2. The only problem is that I’ve had many B’s in the years before, however, I hope that Exeter will see that I’ve changed.

Recommendations:

My math, english, and piano teacher (who is the person that wrote my extracurricular reccomendation) all love me in their classes, and I have a good relationship with all of them, so I think the reccomendations will be good. In addition, my grades probably helped out in this :).

Essays:

Both the essays I turned in were very good, I wrote one about how living in seven countries has made me who I am, and about my love for entrepreneurship.

Extracurriculars:

I’ve done many extracurriculars, however the most important ones are: Badminton for 7 years, tennis for 2 years, programming for 1 year, chess club for 2 years, piano for 4 years, M.U.N for about 2 years, and student council for 4 years, and this year I am president of Student Council in my Middle School.

Interview:

My interview went very well, I don’t want to be specific, but my interviewer clearly was impressed.

Test scores:

This is where it goes a bit downhill. On the SSAT’s, I got in the 87% (Verbal 94%, Quantitative 60%, Reading 94%), and on the ISEE’s, I got 96% in Verbal Reasoning, 99% in Reading Comprehension. 69% in Quantitative Reasoning, and 86% in Mathematics Achievement.

I think that this is the only place where I really slipped up, and I hope that the other parts of my application will fix this.

Conclusion:

I think that I am in the running, however, I’m not sure if my test scores are so bad that I will be out.

Oh and I wrote this on my phone, so sorry if there are any problems with the text.

The only potential trouble spot I see is the quant score on the SSAT as an issue specifically for Exeter as I believe they zero in on that section of the test and I’ve read here they like at least a 90%. Did you apply to other schools as well?

@MAandMEmom, Unfortunately no, as I will continue to attend ASP, or move to Dubai and attend ASD in 9th Grade. Nonetheless, if I don’t get in, I will reapply for 9th Grade again next year, where I will be more mature and aware of how the applications work.

are you an american citizen? do you need financial aid?

@Center American citizen, and I need financial aid, but probably not much.

You have a unique story and have earned a global outlook. if you concentrated on that in your essays, I think they will choose you.

@preppedparent Thank you! I’m really looking for positivity after recieving those test results :(( .

Every applicant has some weakness in their app, but you’ve got a ton of strengths, and its your global outlook that sets you apart from most applicants. Good Luck!

badminton? me2

@badminton4life you didn’t mention that you were applying to Exeter in your original chance me thread. Are you applying to PEA as well?

@badminton4life Hahaha badminton is the best :).

Your math scores will hurt your chances, especially for Exeter. However, your unique circumstances certainly set you apart from other applicants! Good luck!

Best of luck to you @essait! My son went to ASP for a few years and he loved it. I hope that everything works out for you!
