Hey, I’m currently a junior but I’m just wondering if people could give me an opinion on schools you think I would get into. I’m planning on applying to UCF, USF, FSU, UF, and UM next year.
UW GPA: 3.5
W GPA: 4.2
ACT: not taken but on practice tests I score high 20’s sometimes a 30 (Planning on taking in February)
Extra curriculars:
NHS (11)
K is for Kids (9-11)
HOSA (10-11)
Habitat for Humanity (11)
Varsity swim (10-11)
Classes: I’ve taken 3 AP’s so far (AP Bio-2 AP Human Geography-2 and AP World-3)
taking 6 AP/AICE classes so both my GPAs will go up (currently have all As and one B)
What are my chances and what can I do to improve them? Please be honest! I’d like to go into pre-med
Sorry! Also forgot to mention I have a little over 180 volunteer hours (100 from Moorings park and 80 from NCH and a little more from some clubs) This summer I’m doing a paid internship (150 hours) at Mathnasium
You’re borderline for a school like UF. Even if you could get in, I wouldn’t go there. As a pre-med you will be competing against other students with very high stats, and you would be one of the more average students. Choose a school where your stats are stronger compared to the average. You need to have a very strong college GPA to make it into med school.
I think you’ll definitely get into USF, UCF and FSU, probably Miami. I wouldn’t choose Miami, though, because you’ll need money for med school and Miiami is very expensive. You’ll have Bright Futures plus small scholarships for USF, UCF and FSU. If I were you I’d also apply to some safeties such as FGCU and UNF. The stats for those schools aren’t as high, and you could really hit it out of the park as a top student there.
