Get your SAT up for sure. Try for at least 2,000. If you do that, I think you have a chance.

Idk about 2000 for a chance. I think you’d be a shoe-in if you got a 2000. But I think increasing your score to the 1800-1900 range would be overall good.

Isn’t it a bit absurd to tell him to shoot from a score that’s around the 53rd percentile to one that’s in the 90th percentile?

^
All your posts in chance threads are pessimistic. I know plenty of people who increased their scores by a lot.

Yeah, sorry, I said that wrong. I meant to say “good chance” instead of just “chance”, but I guess I forgot a word since I was tired when I posted it. But yeah, he/she still has a chance with 1800-1900, like you said ilikeUW.

I do recommend trying for a 2000 though. I had over 2000 and I have a 3.9GPA, as well as a bunch of activities (I was a WA DECA State Officer, Area 1 President) and I still thought I might be rejected. But I guess that’s the difference between a shoe-in and a chance. I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you get 1800-1900, you have a shot, but if you want really good chances you should try for a 2000. :)

Even if they have shot up their scores it doesn’t change what mrlaurencenguyen said about aiming for top 90 percent.

Anyone can change if they put effort into it, including the OP of this thread. If he/she is really serious about getting into UW, he/she can do his/her best to get a higher score on the SAT. Telling someone they can’t get into the 90th percentile is only going to dissuade them from trying; it’s giving up before even starting. The people who are successful in life are those who persevere, and if the OP really wants to get into UW, he/she can persevere by studying harder than ever before. It’s not common for people to go from 1500 to 1900/2000, but it’s definitely possible.

The SAT is obviously not the only thing admissions cares about though. I’d say to focus more on writing really solid essays rather than takin the SAT 4 or 5 times. I didn’t have a great SAT score and things ended up working out for me. It all depends on the person, not just their number scores.

There are some things on the SAT that can’t merely be power-studied, though. Take for example the vocabulary questions on the CR section. Proficiency in those types of questions can only be developed through years of advanced English classes (honors, AP, or even advanced middle school English) and/or lots of literary reading. And the essay portion of the Writing section is so unpredictable that it is nearly impossible to create a set formula for any given topic. All of this is from personal experience, as well as from examining my classmates who have also taken the SAT.

An SAT of 1800+ is decent for UW- 2000 is a good guarantee.
However, what UW values the most is class rigor, and not just GPA. The amount of AP/IB/Running Start is what sets you apart. The essay is also a pretty big indicator.

im full time running start that must say something… And i took summer classes so ya im sure i got class rigor although i took alot of intro classes last year
