Hi! My top two choices are Hampshire College and Cornell College in Iowa (not the ivy league university).
I applied early action for both with an intended major of women’s studies.
Race/Gender: Hispanic female
GPA: 3.86 weighted 3.2 unweighted (this may change when this semester ends)
SAT: 1290 total w/o essay (760 reading 530 math)
Course History: almost all honors and AP classes with a major upward trend in my grades, I had a very strong junior year. I go to a school in the top 20 public schools nationwide and am graduating with 12 more credits than required by my county.
ECs: I have about ~70 hours of community service from various projects, president of my school’s film club, active in student gov, member of gsa and a peer mentoring program, also attended a pre college program at Hampshire in 2017 studying reproductive justice
I had three recommendations, one from an instructor I had at Hampshire, one from my junior year English teacher, and one from my mother lol
I’m mostly worried about not standing out enough to receive a scholarship if I am admitted
Hi–Hampshire will admit you I’m pretty sure. Your scores seem in the range. (But who am I to really know?) but I’m not sure about the scholarship. But you never know! Sometimes Hampshire gives funds for unexpected things. It’s a different school, not like the others that tend to attract students with high stats with merit. Hampshire seems to have money for other things it finds attractive. Hang in there! I know waiting is tough.
If Hampshire is your first choice, don’t be afraid to reach out to your interviewer and gently remind him/her that it is your first choice. Also that you need funds. You never know what prompts an adcom to scramble around looking for pennies, nickles and dimes that got lost in corners – yes that does happen! You know – using your own words–youd say something like: Thanks for the interview. After careful consideration of several schools, and based on my interview with you, I wanted to let you know that I applied to Hampshire as my first choice. I hope that I’m accepted. I also wish to let you know that I will only be able to attend Hampshire with sufficient aid. – that sort of thing. Keep it short and sweet. You can highlight some of your record that you feel might appeal to Hampshire. Here are some categories of aid that they award. It may give you some ideas – https://www.hampshire.edu/admissions/merit-scholarships
As for Cornell IA, it seems like your scores are on target. I’m not sure how they award aid there. Best of luck to you.
