you definitely have potential. Your GPA and SAT scores are outstanding, but you seem a little spread out… ECwise

what’s your potential major?

I want to major in Biological Sciences, with a Pre-med. course load. I really hope to express my passion for medicine in one of my essays. What else could I do to negate that?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. What can I do to further my chances?

■■■■■■■■■■ is very accurate you should put your profile up their

Okay, I’ll do that too. But what do you guys think? And I’ll chance back also!

You are obviously a solid candidate. Your chances at these schools are probably somewhere between 40 and 50%. This is based on the previous threads stating the percentage of applicants with perfect SAT scores and 4.0 GPA’s that get waitlisted/rejected is somewhere around 50% at these schools. You more than likely should get into at least one of them. And sadly, there’s a small chance you won’t get into any of them. Essays and recs could be the deciding factor for you. For this reason, have some nice A/A- schools you would also like to attend-- just in case.

Very good scores. Really impressive. You have a 50/50 chance at these colleges. Admission process is very arbitrary and these colleges are HIGHLY selective. I’d suggest you focus on things that you are passionate about, in your ECs, that’s always a +.
I’d recommend you apply to some non-ivies, or near-ivies like Northwestern. John Hopkins is also great for pre-med. Ivies are very expensive, so save money for med-school.
Good luck.

Chance me back too!

Your academic records strongly resemble those of accepted HYPS applicants.

Dude sorry to say u are a below average applicant. It will tremendously hard for you to get into these schools. Sorry for the bad news…
Just kidding. You got a great chance at all these schools.

PEACE

Haha, you really had me scared there, but thank you!

Yo what part of Dhaka are you from

Definately have a chance but nearly a quarter of the applicants have the same scores as you, so make sure your essays are truly stellar. Just a question though, don’t you think your school will not be looked as thoroughly as it should be looked at, since it never sent a student to those schools?

Looks solid to me.
Just essays. Don’t slack on those. But like everyone said, chances are pretty good you’ll get into one of them. Valedictorian 2300+ sat, solid EC’s

if you played a sport, that would’ve been even better. But no one can me perfect right?

Your also a NMSF finalist. That’s gonna help too. Your chances look great,

Good luck.

BISORI, from what I’ve read HYPS and other highly selective schools, it seems that they look at a student in their environment rather than at the environment itself, meaning they’ll look at how I made use of the opportunities available to me. If anything, I thought that an underrepresented state along with a not so good public school would give me a higher chance. But that’s just what I understand, I could easily be wrong.

Anyone else willing to weigh in?

Hey Potentially, thanks for chancing me earlier. Your grades, scores, and leadership look stellar, though I do agree with a previous poster that EC’s appear a bit scattered. I think you should take senior year to expand on your passion for med-related activities (cleft lip treatment clinic, more volunteering in different aspects of HC field, etc) You might also use one of your essays to allow your passion for Healthcare to shine through. Also, coming from UT is probably going to help.

Good luck!

The idea of some previous posters saying your chances are 40%-50% is completely ridiculous, your chances are much lower, sorry. You don’t seem to have anything that’s truly special, and the fact that your school has never sent someone to HYPS reflects poorly on your school and thus you. These are all still very much reaches for you, though you still have solid stats and should be looking at other schools that are less selective (Chicago, Duke, Cornell etc.).

Thank you sunwukong!

Tjkid, there’s no need to say sorry. Thanks for your honesty and input. What else can I do to boost my chances? And don’t worry, I’ll have plenty of matches and safeties. Also, I can’t do anything about the high school I attend. I thought it would be a positive that I could excel as far as I have despite my school’s track record?
Any advice would really be appreciated!

You obviously have great scores, but I agree with a lot of others that it might be good to get involved in more things that will show your interest in medicine. Perhaps do a research project for Intel STS or the Siemens competition.
Is your bio teacher writing one of your recommendations?
