THANKS!

You’re looking fine, but if you want to get into Ivies and Stanford, you should make sure you also do well on a few subject tests, along with the normal SAT. Are you interested in engineering? If so, it would be worth your time to study for Math Level 2 and two science subject tests (although usually only one science subject test is required). I would definitely take Physics. Your choice between Biology and Chemistry, depending on your major. Take all three if you have time.

Also, study hard for the SAT starting now, so you can hopefully do well on the PSAT and become a National Merit Semifinalist, or even a Finalist.

Thanks Ramzee I forgot to add those! I am taking math level 2 and world history in June. I will definitely consider a science subject test thanks!!

They are all reaches at the moment.

Ramzee you read my mind I just started REALLY studying this winter and I’ve already increased 130 points since the October PSAT

Thats good to hear! Keep it up :)

You’re still so young that it’s hard to honestly gauge your chances. Yeah, they’re reaches at the moment, but you have a couple of years to get everything in order and pull yourself up to some truly excellent stats. I firmly believe that your CR will just improve with age (mine was a ~560 as a sophomore, now it’s a 730 as a senior) if read frequently and recreationally.

Maybe you should look into some national competitions? I really regret not taking more time to enter writing things like Scholastic as an underclassmen, so if you could excel in something like that (or your equivalent interests), it’d look great.

If you want tips on the SAT essay, you could message me and I’d be glad to tell it like it is (I scored a 12). Then again, it’s not like your score is weak. Going from a 720 to an 800 just adds some token points and gets you that much closer to a 2400.

Your CR score is a real prob. When a score is that low, getting it into the 700’s is just about impossible even with hard work. I suggest taking the ACT. You may have much better results with the reading section there. In fact, you may do surprisingly better in everything.

As I somewhat addressed in the PM, neonpinklime is just wrong. By your junior/senior year, you can pull CR up to a 700. My score went up as a byproduct of taking AP language courses.

Zamiota is correct. When i took the sat as a freshman i had a 510 CR and as a sophomore on the psat i had a 53. This year on the psat i got a 66 on CR and almost all of the questions I got wrong were sentence completions so you can definitely bring up your CR score with the time you have. Just make sure you prepare well for your juniot psat.

You seem to be on the right path and your ECs show you’re a well developed person. You should work on your SAT I and II and get high grades, I’m sure you can bring up your critical score. Best of luck!
Do you have any lower reach schools? You have some shot at these schools, but I’d say do really well on your 'goals.

@ziadrifi I chanced you and @fauresonata here is my list of all schools kinda…
Harvard University 1
Princeton University 2
University of Pennsylvania 3
Stanford University 4
Massachusetts Institute of Technology 5
Northwestern University 5
The University of Chicago 5
Columbia University 8
Georgetown University 9
Duke University 10
Brown University 11
Johns Hopkins University 12
Tufts University 13
Fordham University 14
Yale University 15

It’s a bit early to tell until you have retaken your SAT I and taken your SAT II tests. You should be looking on getting above 750 on both your subject tests and at the very least 2100 on your SAT I to stand a chance of getting into the top tier schools like Harvard and Stanford. Your extra curriculars are looking good just make sure your essays are equally good and then you’ll have a good shot at the top state schools and lower ivies.

Please can you check out my thread?

A 500 score in any section in soph year is a concern. And no, age and experience doesn’t always help. In fact, people often hit a wall and plateau with prep. Taking the ACT is helpful because you may discover that you can improve that score with a lot less work. These days most people take both exams to gauge which works better. For some there’s no difference, but for others there’s a lot of difference.

It’s kind of early to tell, but other than you CR of course your SAT looks good. Class President is good, and try to get more leadership roles. Also the “National Society of High School Scholars” I would leave out of your app if I were you because from what I know it is not too hard to get in and you pay to get in so that would probably not fly too well with colleges.
Granted Harvard, UPENN, Princeton, & Stanford are reaches for almost everybody, Penn may be a low reach if you’re not applying to Wharton.

@goldfly I chanced you, and @neonpinklime I think I can get critical reading up over 700 with enough practice. I understand my mistakes, and if I can get it up I will let everyone know. But really thank you for being honest everyone!

Wow, you probably have a great chance! From what I’ve heard, being a legacy is significant and your extracurriculars will take care of the rest… Your grades and SAT scores are really good (especially for an underclassman). Things that make you stand out (like the People to People Leadership program) are also important.
I guess the most important thing now is to focus on something that you’re really interested in, but you have plenty of time for that!
Chance me back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1597739-new-please-chance-me-ivy-leagues-plus-mit-stanford-caltech.html

For improving critical reading, the best advice is simply to read. I know that’s not much help, though. It will help improve your score. If you are content with 700-760, it’s not necessary to study the inane vocab words that they give you :stuck_out_tongue: however, if you really want a good score, I would recommend picking up some SAT vocab lists and learning the meaning of maybe a few each day. That along helps reading comprehension as well. I got a 750 without studying the words, and every one I missed was from vocab. 36 on ACT reading. Find books you like! And simply going through high school will help you improve too. And for everything else, you have great stats! Keep working hard and you stand a fantastic shot at those universities. They are reaches by their very nature, but you stand a very good shot with your ambitious goals! Best of luck and enjoy high school!
