Chance me for Harvard, UPENN, Princeton, & Stanford, Will chance back

Midterms soon…

so your info is great
however, these are kinda all reaches, for everyone

so about the same chance as the rest of us: less than 10%

yeah, it sucks, but we’re all in the same boat

I think you do have as good a chance as anyone can get though, and legacy def. helps a lot

good luck!

These schools are reaches for anyone and given that you’re only a sophomre, its hard to evaluate. However, get those sat scores up and really just focus on what makes you you. I know a close friend who goes to a competitive public magnet school nearby and what I noticed is the fact that they send a lot of students to good schools (like 50 to 55 ivy league students per year) but the ones who do aren’t the ones who do a lot of amazing extracurriculars. You can clearly see what they went for and their specific passions as well as interests. That’s what I think really matters and what I really strived for. I don’t know if that really shows in my own application but best of luck to you. You have two whole years to go so best of luck.

Skip retaking the SAT and study for the ACT. Most top schools make you submit all your test dates, and these scores will hurt you. Work hard on the ACT (the reading section is easier anyways) and use it as your clean slate testing-wise.

Otherwise, you’re on track. No guarantees, but you have a fairly good shot everywhere.

Harvard high reach
Princeton mid reach
Stanford mid reach
U penn low reach

Best of luck. Chance me back?

You’re on track to get into at least one of them. The fact that you’ll be a legacy at 3 of them also helps out decently.

Chance Back:

@MChorsegirl14 I only took a practice SAT so I don’t have any official scores if that changes your mind

You are on the right path. since you still have time I would recommend finding something you are really passionate about and going all out on it, as well as doing other activities. That makes a huge difference

Any other thoughts? I am also starting a club that is already in high regards with the teachers, guidance counselors and principal. Too difficult to explain here though…

That SAT reading score is your achilles heel. Try taking the ACT.

Also, a large part of it is reading comprehension, so read a few books just for fun. Forget “The Great Gatsby” and classical crap like that, just read Star Wars or Vampire books, or something you like.

This will boost your CR score and help with writing.

i think your sat’s are REALLY low for ivy’s… but maybe cornell. CHANCE ME BACK PLEASE
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1608341-chance-me-uiuc-ut-austin-will-chance-back.html

Ivy League schools by default are reach schools, regardless of performance on tests/EC. However, through gradual improvement I would say that they are schools that are “within” reach.

Thanks jswizzle. I dont think toe shock shoe is being fair with my SAT’s becuase I have months to study so it should be possible to get my scores up

EDIT* I have legacy at Harvard, Princeton, and UPenn in case that was confusing. I will also have over 10 AP’s by the end of high school. And I won a prestigious award at Harvard Model UN…(not sure if that’s a big deal though)

It may be possible to get your scores up, but a 200+ point increase is hard even spread across three sections. Improving that much in a single section will be difficult…

@bodangles, I agree, but I am extremely motivated, and I think since I took a practice test, I subconsciously knew that it didn’t count, so I didn’t focus too much. I will make a post about how I improved my score over the summer, if I can increase it.

Hi thanks for chancing me (I really appreciated the honesty).

Obviously ivy level chances are variable (ex: UPenn Wharton obviously has different standards than, say, Cornell Hotel School). However, there’s no reason your specified goal statistics should hold you back from getting into ivies. Considering your a sophomore, the one thing I’d tell you to do is to have a ton of EC-experience in your prospective major. That’s my one regret, tbh. I wish I knew what I wanted to do earlier so I could start saying everything I’ve already done in that field. Sorry I can’t give you a specific chance obviously because of the standards of each school coupled with the fact that you still have a year and a half to get everything in order. However, a 2050 as a sophomore with only one low sub-section is a good starting point.

Good luck!

Stanford reach
Harvard reach
Princeton mid reach
U penn low reach

ALL of them look like low reaches to me, possibly even a match for Stanford. Keep doing what you love and keep your grades up (along with SAT/ACT scores) and make sure to take lots of APs Junior year!

@hichristen. I’m glad there are still some individuals out there like you who generate more applications to Stanford than it can handle…Stanford appreciates your free advertisement and welcome mat.
