Hey guys! I’m a transfer students who will be a sophomore in Fall and I’m considering UNC, but only if I have a good chance at getting into the Honors College. Here’s my stats:
HIGH SCHOOL:
GPA: 98.25 (or 4.0) (UW)
SAT: 2250 Total/1570 CR+M (770CR 800M 670W)
SAT II: 720 Math 1, 720 Bio (E)
ECs: Nothing significant, just a regular member of a few clubs + orchestra
Volunteer/Work/etc: I had a lot of in-school volunteer hours as a peer tutor/HW helped (about 160 listed on my common app over my junior and senior years)
APs: 8 (3 World History, 5 Bio, 4 Lang&Comp, 4 US History, 5 Chem, 5 Calc, 4 Gov & Pol, 4 Lit&Comp)
Awards: Perfect attendance, Principal’s list every year, AP Scholar with Distinction (received in junior year)
Top 4%
COLLEGE:
Current year: Freshman
Current major: Business
Intended major at UNC: Biology
GPA: 3.92 first semester, 3.87 midterm
ECs: Not part of any clubs, but I explained why on my app (I commute + I had a class scheduled at the time that many clubs took place)
Volunteer/Work/etc: Clocked up ~150 volunteer hours on my app since graduating HS, also got a part-time job. Volunteer work included: Homework helper for kids in a low income area, forest restoration, library assistant, part of an environmental grassroots activism organization. I’m also currently in the process of signing up for another ecology-based volunteer program.
Essay: Pretty good (at least according to the grad student who helped me edit it in the writing center, lol)
Supplement: I thought they were pretty good
Teacher Recs: I didn’t see them but the teachers like me and know me well (they weren’t science professors tho)
Part of a very small honors program (about 4% of the entering class)
Ethnicity: White (Middle Eastern)
OOS Transfer student
Hooks: First gen American, first gen college
I think that my strengths are my SAT (well above the median of 1460) 5’s on three STEM AP’s (which all give me a lot of credit at UNC), and the fact that I’m already in an honors program, which makes me familiar with honors coursework.
However, I’m worried that as a transfer student, and an OOS one at that, admission will be much more competitive for me.
Any thoughts?
