they sent my HPME application, and it is on its way to me right now

if you read this over and had an opinion about the fate of my HPME application and were willing to share, I would appreciate it
THANKS!

any input at all?

You obviously have great credentials that put you in the center of the pack of ACCEPTED students. There is no question that you are a solid applicant with a reasonable chance at acceptance. But I would tell you as I have others with your stats that an application to HPME parallels one to HYP - uncertainty reigns.

yea thanks... so my stats do make me qualified. i had no clue, as i've never met anyone who even applied.

any other input?

sorry, blond moment, what does the E stand for

Honors Program in Medical Education

MEDIAN program SAT in low-mid 1500 range. MEDIAN SAT II's in mid-upper 700's.

raiderade, if you're talking about the E in the bio subject test, it's Ecological (there's a Molecular version as well, but i didn't take it)

Bala, yea, so, i'm about at the median. i guess i have to be stand out for everything else. also, where'd you hear those stats?

I got my HPME application a few weeks ago. Does recieving an HPME application mean anything at all? Like do you have to be very/relatively/sorta qualified to recieve it? Is it any indication of your chances of being accepted to NU?

yea, i just got mine a couple weeks ago too. i really don't know how liberal they are with giving them out, so i can't really help you with that, sorry.

how long does it take to receive an HPME application? i sent in that little card thing to request an application about a week ago from inside the application they sent me in the mail

^ bump
10char

They are not liberal in giving out HPME apps. Interviews are important.

They give about 800 apps, Interview 100~120, offer 30~40.

Are apps sent to any sub 1500/1600 SAT scorers?

i know they don't give out many apps, i was just wondering when they would mail them out (i got a 35 ACT, 800 on Chem and Math 2 subject tests, and have maintained a 4.0 unweighted average [4.533 weighted average] throughout high school... would that constitute me for an app, or do they want more about me?) i sent the card in from the application they sent me (which just asks for GPA, test scores, and how many class credits of some courses you've taken.. nothing else [and my counselor sent in my transcript with the card as extra confirmation]).. do they wait until some time in december before they give out HPME apps (since the deadline to send in that card slip is Dec. 1)?

^ You're definitely going to get an app (I got one back in sept and my stats are nowhere as good as yours) so don't worry! They send it out on a rolling basis: it's sent once they get your card and decide whether or not to send the app. All of them are not sent at the same time in december.

oh ok, so if i sent it in about a week ago or so, it'll be here in another week or week and a half?

You have a decent shot (though I don't think they superscore.) The key will be to convince them that you are committed to patient care. You have a lot of volunteer hours at a hospital, so that will help.

To those who would want to do the MD PhD program through HPME, make sure you emphasize how committed you are to the patient care part of it. It won't cut it if you just say that you want to be a researcher and think the MD part will be good background. One of the adcom people at HPME said that many people drop out of the PhD part of the MD PhD program, so I kind of got the feeling that they don't trust that people will follow through with it.

know they don't give out many apps, i was just wondering when they would mail them out (i got a 35 ACT, 800 on Chem and Math 2 subject tests, and have maintained a 4.0 unweighted average [4.533 weighted average] throughout high school... would that constitute me for an app, or do they want more about me?) i sent the card in from the application they sent me (which just asks for GPA, test scores, and how many class credits of some courses you've taken.. nothing else [and my counselor sent in my transcript with the card as extra confirmation]).. do they wait until some time in december before they give out HPME apps (since the deadline to send in that card slip is Dec. 1)?

lol. I'll give you my app if they don't send you one, and my scores don't hold a candle to yours.

i got my HPME app in the mail yesterday, woohoo
