Anything else special: I am an ethnic Manchu; the Manchus number around 10 million(but hardly any in Singapore...) but the Manchu language is almost extinct. After several years of learning it on my own, I can speak, read (I have found Manchu texts online) and write it. I do know several Manchus in S'pore and we help each other as we learn about the Manchu language and culture; we want to save it from extinction.
I was born in Norway and came to Singapore when I was 6. I couldn't speak English or Chinese then so I couldn't communicate with my classmates/teachers. The teachers were initially worried that I would need to repeat Primary One but I adjusted to Singapore's competitive enviroment and learnt English and Chinese soon enough.

Unis to which I applied

You know, international students never fail to amaze me. Alot have won national and international competitions. If we competed against you guys, we’d probably get creamed. I’d say you’re right up there. You have a good shot at HYPS (maybe ~50%), and you’re definitely in at all the others.

you’ll probably get into most of those schools!

Good shot at most of your schools. Not a definite shoo-in but definitely there. Play up your literature and grassroots involvement background too.

Thanks for your replies. Actually I was worried that I’m too humanities…

bumpanyone else? I really want to get in at least 1 of the HYP schs cos they are most generous when giving fin aid.

Uh, well you have a shot, but don’t count on it. Other schools also give quite generous financial aid though they are not need-blind and you can get merit scholarships from other schools as well.

haha but honestly i think you’re good enough for HYP level schools. in any case, judging by your interests/ECs, it would be quite hard for you to find a compatible scholarship board right? are you from bishan jc btw?

Well a lot of people are good enough for HYP schools from Singapore - but the Singapore pool is just that much tougher :frowning: - RSI kids not getting in, I*O kids not getting in, etc…

1234d:
what do you think…I’m from the jc with that dried mud uniform…

frankchn: haha i guess OP’s ECs are RSI/I*O-level for humanities people.

iamkeiko: hwach?

Yes.(10 char)

^ Ah. My JC then XD.

You can look at it that way, definitely. Good shot at all your schools, not a shoo-in though =. (I wonder what w t y’s achievements would look like if he were a humanities person).

Are you applying this year or next year?

Applied a week ago.

haha the two of you are schoolmates then XD
