i havent totally settled on what kinda major i want, but just curious on what my chances are for these schools
I think you are a good match for all of the schools on your list except for Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. For those I would put a low reach for you. Other than that, good chances all around.
Was the first place win at a county, state, regional, national, or international level? For the top Ivies/Stanford, it really helps if your app has some kind of a “starry” quality to it – which could be a national or international top 3 placement, a couple of state/regional wins, or possibly the book authorship (depending on if it was published by a publisher or self-published). Also for your GPA, is there a story to the Bs or Cs – like in your freshman year, but all As in your soph and jr year – or during a year when something major happened, or ???
In reality, a very good portion of the Asian applicants with similiar academic stats to yours get rejected every year by the above mentioned schools ( except some of the public institutes listed). This does not mean you have no chance. Just try to do an outstanding essay and visit the schools of your interests. Good luck!
I would say you have a pretty good chance but as the poster above me said, Asian applicants usually have a harder time at gaining admission. But I think your leadership experience is invaluable and I would say that the essays will probably be really important so give those a good chunk of time and thought. Otherwise, I would say you’ve done the best you could up until now. But fair warning, college admissions is fickle, especially for the top tier schools you’re shooting for.
