Personally, I agree with @Penn95. Iāve always have a bemused chuckle on the whole concept of chance me threads as it is. A search for my own chance me thread will yield nothing. Anyway, Princeton has a 6.5% acceptance rate; the other HYPS schools have even lower ones, so itās delusional IMO to anyone to call any of these schools (and Iād include any single digit acceptance rate school, which includes Penn, in that group) anything less than a reach. Williams and Emory and the like with rates in the teens and twenties is at least a bit more plausible. But itās all just a silly parlor game.
Wow your stats I great. As everyone else said HYPS is a reach for everyone but I know youāll get into some other schools you apply to with your achievements. I wish I had those kinda ECās but Iām just a tennis and science geek XD.
Jesus man you said I was a strong applicant and your extracurriculars are way better than mine, so you seem like youāre on the same playing field as everyone admitted to these schools, and itāll come down to essays and how you really connect with admissions officers . Try to make yourself as relatable as possible or tell them stories they donāt get to read often. This might sound obvious but try to make sure you show youre thoughtful, build on and learn from your experiences, and evolve intellectually and not some boring robot.
The ACT is pretty low for the Ivyās but honestly youāre around the average for URM admitted to top schools so itās all good. Iād be surprised if u donāt get into over half of these schools.
Plug: if anyone wants to check out my chance thread itād be much appreciated
Iād say you have a good chance to get into emory , Vanderbilt, and Rice. And UT is definitely a safety school (probably would reject you because you are too good). But Iām not sure bout HYP and Stanford, the best schools are always the weirdest. And you definitely need a better SAT or ACT score. Good essays are also very important.
your ECs look pretty good and your GPA is great. your ACT is on the lower end for most of these schools. I think you have a good chance at Vanderbilt and Emory especially. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford applications will need to stand out in the essay department (which I donāt think will be a problem). Overall, most of these are reaches, but you seem to be at the very least in the middle 50% for all of these schools, which is an accomplishment in itself.
Definitely a decent shot at most schools on your list, with the exception of Stanford and possibly Harvard, only due to the fact that no one is really guaranteed for them. URM + GPA should help immensely, and I doubt your ACT will make or break you.
Yahoooo!!! Or as they would say in Cambridge, wicked awesome. Harvard knows quality when they see it. Give your mom a big hug and celebrate this weekend. Also believe in yourself. Youāre going to do great at Harvard! @MaybeHarvard2022 now Definitely Harvard 2022
Might I ask why are you applying to schools like Brown, Penn, Rice, and Williams? Would you actually consider going to one of these schools over Harvard? If not, donāt apply and give your potential spot to someone else. Youāve already gotten into what I consider to be the best school in the country. But, of course, youāre free to do what you want. Congrats again on Harvard
@doorrealthe well I had already submitted my applications to Rice and Williams before I received my decision. I really enjoyed Pennās community when I visited for the fly-in program so Iāll take my shot there. Brown just left a very good impression on me from my campus visit so I just want to keep all my options open. (plus my mom still wants me to apply to a few more haha)
