Letter of Rec:
*Will be getting a stellar one from my math teacher, who's been my math teacher my freshman year (when I skipped ahead 2 years of math with my insane Asian-ness) and who had me again in my Junior year. She knows well of my past and she will testify for my great improvements and my competence.
*English Teacher will also testify for my academic competence and my steady improvements.

Additional Info:
*I am trilingual. Korean is my first language, English my second and French my third.
*I am a dual citizen. And this gets complicated here: I spent well over half my life in Korea (south of course). Born in NY originally, but moved into Korea when I was 6 and went to middle school there. Barely ever spoke English there. Then moved into WA for high school. Got just lucky enough to pass ESL test, but wasn't good enough at English to follow up at school.
*Here's my grade part as mentioned before. Early on, I lagged behind mainly due to English issues. I was slow to translate what others said or wrote into comprehensible units... And both socially and academically I caved in my late freshman~sophomore year. Notable is the reality that one quarter of the student body at our school is Asian, and more than half of those Asians are ESL. I had real trouble since I kept on being labeled with them, but could not join the other groups beyond ESL for some while -which I hated as I then realized I was missing out a huge part of high school life. And so on... This is me ranting about my silly past. But the real answer is in my common app essay. So I'll just skip over to that section...

Essay:
*Decent topic, great potentials to become stellar. Had it proofread by old friends I made back in those days I lived in NY and NJ, who are also spectacular writers, and graduates/undergraduates of the Ivies. They liked it a lot, saying that only if I could add more personal voice and be more concise, the essay could serve as the game changer for me.
*The essay is about the change I went through in high school. You may have all noticed that it was my Sophomore grade that was a total bummer, not the freshman one. There are lots of stories untold behind the transcript, and I am implying most of such reasons within my essay. No worries, I made sure my essay doesn't take the whining voice. (Actually, my essay is basically about growth -coming of maturity- to sum everything up.)

*Fun fact: I do not have a middle school diploma. Left school a month before graduation... Yup, I'm elementary graduate at most as of now:D

College of Choice:
*Early Decision
Middlebury College (reach/dream?)

*Regular Decision
Brown U. (Reach/Dream?)
Haverford College (Reach)
Johns Hopkins U. (Reach)
Georgetown U. (Reach)
Claremont McKenna (Reach)
Davidson College (Match-Reach?)

Macalester U. (Match)
Colby College (Match)
U. of St. Andrews (Match)
Tufts U. (Match-Reach?)

Whitman College (Safety)
U. of Washington (Safety)

I would love to know if I stand a good chance at Middlebury ED, along with my chances at other RD schools. I labeled them as best I could, but please tell me if I'm right, and why if so/if not. Thanks again for showing interest!

<<sorry i="" couldn't="" write="" my="" intro="" here="" clearer...="" and="" please="" don't="" criticize="" me="" for="" the="" inconsistencies="" in="" writing="" here...="" it's="" 2="" am="" right="" now="" i'm="" about="" to="" fall="" asleep...="">></sorry>

I just realized I flip-flopped in the details of how my grades went down. Just take this: it was my personal fault. I was lacking work ethic and I was not being myself. In my common app essay, I honestly disclose this, but I also go deeper; I speak of what processes I went through and how my realization came that transformed me for the better. Everything corresponds well with the letter of recs I am expecting to get, and my stats also represent that well.

So again, considering all this and my nearly ESL status upon starting high school, what do you think my chances for Middlebury ED would be like?

I think if you apply ED, you have a strong chance of admission to Middlebury (assuming your class rank is top 10% or better).

My class rank, I’m afraid, won’t be within top 10% as in UW, and barely -or slightly outside- with Weighted.

In that case, is Middlebury ED a Reach, high match or Dream?

P.S. Would my participation in the NHS (National Honor Society) be of any help?

I would say a possible reach!
For NHS… trust me, everyone is in NHS

True that… About 5% of our student body is in NHS… They should be more selective nationwide

I think you have a decent chance in getting into the Middlebury if you ED. Solid ECS, Tests, and grades. Good luck and thanks for chancing me back!
