My Chances?

Allow me to talk about myself a bit
My GPA is very low: 3.1
my school doest rank, but it is a prestigious catholic school in socal
My SAT: 2100
Math:680, CR:640, Writing: 780 (not super-scored/in one test sitting)
AP's: AP Bio, AP Lang, APES, took the AP World test as well. Did okay on them, not bio though :/
Took two subject tests today in Math2 and Lit. Thought they went well.

I know the immediate response would be "This GPA is far too low for Middlebury! Your chances are nonexistent!" However allow me to talk about myself. My older brother graduated from Middlebury and I hope to do the same. I do a few unique things and I hope Middlebury will recognize that. I can read and write in Korean, I am conversational in Chinese and Spanish, and plan to continue in the foreign language field (East Asian Studies). My entire mom's half of the family is Hispanic and my dad is German so I qualify as a minority. Most importantly, I have just published a children's book called "Philips Mission" which is all about a boy in a futuristic city who manages to transform a simple task of fetching milk from the local market, into a memorable action-packed space adventure. The whole concept I wanted to share was preserving one's imagination as a child and through adulthood. In addition, I play saxophone and I am very serious about competitive Fencing. Midd doesnt have a fencing team but I am nationally ranked and the third best fencer in the southern california scholastic league and number one on my team. I also spent 30 days on Outward Bound in the Colorado Rockies this past summer and it totally changed my academic outlook, which is why there is such a huge academic difference between junior and senior year (3.1 to a 4.1). So, what do you think? I am going for ED 2 and would love to end up at Middlebury. Thanks for reading!

It’s hard to say, but I do agree there is a chance. You have many interesting qualities, you are a legacy, and certainly the upward movement of your grades is good. Your reading SAT may also hurt you…
I can’t really chance you with any confidence. It depends if your application appeals to someone on the Adcom who will advocate for you.
Show the love…

Wow I wanted to get the opinion of an intelligent unbiased reader so I could compare my chances to what my father and what my counselor have been telling me to what I heard on this discussion board. Your response and the responses I got back home were practically IDENTICAL. Thank you I have been hearing the same thing about how I really just need to win the heart of an admissions officer (for which I have an excellent strategy to do so) and that my extra-curriculars are what really defines me and not so much my grades (although my SAT isnt bad). I also just took the Lit subject test and i was told a good score on that will help offset my low critical reading score. Thank you again!
