Chance me for MIT and Upenn plz

I'm Chinese Canadian, currently living in Vancouver

My school, unlike the ones in the State, does not have a weighed GPA system. Also, my counsellor won't let me see my transcript, which is probably very strange by your standards. But out of my 9 courses, I average 92% and usually have one B (sometimes two).

I would greatly appreciate it if you guys can give me some opinions on my chances of getting into either MIT or Upenn. It would be totally awesome if you can also suggest me some schools that I may not have thought of but are compatible with my scores. My preferences are oriented toward sciences and economics.

As we Canadians say, merci beaucoup ^^

You have very good chances, but even if your Canadian you have tough competition as an internation applicant. Good luck.

oh yeah, btw, how does the low income policy in these schools work? I'm almost 100% sure i'll be applying for financial aid, does that hurt my chances? if so, should i look for loans from banks instead?

penn says they're need-blind for canadian students so financial aid shouldn't be a problem. Are you applying ED/EA to either of the two schools? You seem like a very strong applicant, and will probably get into any of the single-degree options if you ED at penn. Are you interested in the hard sciences or engineering?
For Penn (my predictions for the various programs you may apply to):
Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology: toss-up
School of Engineering and Applied Science: likely
College of Arts and Sciences (econ+hard sciences): likely

MIT I'm not going to say anything about as it's too unpredictable.

You should get into MIT and Penn. Are you applying to CAS or SEAS at Penn?

You should also look into Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon.

hella good chances.

lol, Ivy Hopeful, you mentioned Carnegie Mellon twice ^^

I'm actually considering the Penn Wharton School of Economics. Is it much more difficult to get in than SEAS and CAS? is it possible to switch programs once you get in?

bump......

It's the Wharton School of Business. Economics is only offered in the CAS.

Transferring is next to impossible. They know lots of people apply to the regular school with the plan to apply to Wharton later--so they make it essentially impossible to do so. The same applies to NYU Stern, for those that are interested.

^___^'', i see i see. thank you for your inputs!!
