I have just been rejected at Wharton ED and was completely devastated because I got my hopes up too high. So please be honest, or brutal, if you may, when chancing me. Also, please evaluate in two different cases: me asking for FA and not asking for FA, since I haven't decided yet.

Thank you very much in advance =)

Bump… Opinions are greatly appreciated

Definitely gonna get in to NU, probably gonna get into MMSS.

To be honest, I don’t think you necessarily stand out amongst other MMSS candidates. All of them have stellar scores. Also, your AP scores related to MMSS are subpar… I’d say you’d be maybe into NU, but it’s a stretch for MMSS.

Yah actually, on second look, the 4s and 3s on APs instead of 5s is a big red flag. I’m gonna modify my opinion to say yes admission, unlikely MMSS.

^ Thank you for your response.

It looks like my AP scores are the main problem as of now. So what if I do not report them at all since I self-studies all of them and therefore there wouldn’t be any inconsistency between my application and my transcript? My school has a very limited offering of AP courses and it’s very difficult to complete all the prerequisites prior to junior year under the Canadian system.

it’s not just the AP’s, but yeah those definitely don’t add anything to your application.

If NU wouldn’t be able to tell you took AP courses, then it’s a lower risk move. But otherwise I’d say it’s risky/ suspicious. The scores aren’t BAD, but they’re just not good. I’d say as 4s they help with admissions to NU somewhat.

You’ll probably get into WCAS (as long as you don’t have a red flag rec or something like that) but I’m not familiar with MMSS so I can’t chance you on that. Also, NU is need-blind so if you need FA, apply and be assured it won’t affect your chances.

^ Thank you for your kind response. But as long as I know, NU is only need-blind towards domestic applicants, which means my chances would be greatly diminished if I apply for FA as a Canadian.

Ohh whoops just realized you’re an international student. That certainly changes things FA-wise.

^ Yeah, and I’ve just decided that the prospect for a degree in MMSS is worth 55k a year, so I will not be applying for FA.

I’m a MMSSer right now, and I say that if you don’t apply for FA, I think you’re likely gonna get in the program. (If you do apply, then Northwestern may reject you on basis of $$$$$) Applying to MMSS as a freshmen is wayyyy easier to get in than applying as a sophomore. (I was lucky to get accepted. A lot of my friends got rejected even with stellar grades).

However, keep in mind that everyone in MMSS is very intelligent and courses are a lot harder than ‘normal’ courses at Northwestern.

^ Thank you very much SilverDragon795! That was very encouraging. =)

Straight from the mouth of the admissions director: freshman admission is 99% based on SAT Math scores and AP math scores.

Seeing that your math scores are 800s, I think you have a decent shot @ MMSS freshman entry.

@lilahozi lol I wish college admission were this simple. But thanks anyways

^I’m talking about freshman MMSS admission, not general WCAS admission.

^ Could you please elaborate on that? It seems to me that there are much more applicants with perfect SATI and SATII math scores than the MMSS program could accommodate.

we seem to have the same goal. good luck to you! since I am not sure about the situation of admission, I really cannot help but wish both of us admitted

@mathematicism - I sent you a PM.
