Chance Me for Northwestern

Your chances seem quite good. I’d retake the SAT and, otherwise, make sure I kept my grades high.

I’m only concerned about two things:
-Your class list seems a little… fluffy. This may not really be the case, but colleges would generally rather see, for example, AP Euro or AP Physics than Native American Studies, Ceramics, and Healthy Cuisines. Obviously, you can’t change the second two of those now, nor is it necessarily a good idea to change the first, but it’s something you’ll want to consider. After much deliberation, I opted to remove Acting from my senior schedule and replace it with AP Gov.
-Your extracurricular list seems unfocused. From what you’ve shown me, there is a general trend toward sports and academic honor societies, but you don’t seem like you really know what you want to do in college or even in high school based on your ECs alone. Ideally, any section of one’s application can show - or at least be easily argued to show - one’s interests, typically restricted to one, two, or MAYBE three. You’re certainly not unaccomplished, but you might be looked at as uncommitted or directionless.

Anyway, improve on what you can. As for what you can’t improve, try to think of how to best qualify it if you’re asked, e.g. in an interview.

I completely agree with you! However, my school requires one year of fine art, and for some reason I decided to quit band, and healthy cuisines was a complete farce, an awful decision on my part. And the reason that I am taking Native American Studies is that I am really bad at history and I don’t think I could handle balancing four AP classes as well as my sports and extra-curricular activities. As for my extra curricular concentrations, I don’t really go into specifics but I try to concentrate on my student council and the service projects and activities, with my sports teams, and with my church youth group and the service and activities there. Those are my main focuses and otherwise I join those other clubs for fun or are nominated to attend conferences and if I’m nominated then why not go? Thank you for your input and I will do my best to improve as a student and as a leader. Thank you for responding!

No problem. Tell me if there’s anything you’re still wondering. Oh, and would you mind chancing me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1366121-chance-me-please-these-colleges.html

bump bump bump

Really lacks any sort of dedication and that can and typically will hurt your application. A lot of that appears as “filler” rather than something you’re passionate about – reinforced by the sheer amount of ECs you have.

In my eyes, and I could be wrong since I’m not in the UGA’s office, but they seek passionate and motivated individuals. You seemingly have the latter, but the former is in question.

Further, while the ACT is what they’re looking for (congratulations), the GPA seems to be a bit of a hindrance.

Thanks for your input!
