Hello, all. Currently a high school sophomore with the following numbers behind his name:
Grades/Standardized Tests
-3.06 unweighted GPA- 4.06 weighted out of 5 (every class I have taken in hs so far has been honors, save for one gifted music class which ironically gave no honors credit). This makes me a B honors student with a few A’s thrown in, plus one C+ that has been the bane of my existence since eighth grade when my perfect score on the final wasn’t enough to get me to a B.
-1370 SAT (new)- translates to 1930 on the old SAT and a 29 or 30 on the ACT, depending on who you ask (though people swing towards 29 more)
-1250 PSAT (from freshman year, hoping to crush that score next week)
-2 AP classes underway; I have A’s in both, plan to take 4-6 more by the end of hs
-Class rank- I attend an extremely competitive school where ranks fluctuate a lot from year to year. Unfortunately, all I can guarantee is that I’m top 50%, likely top 25%.
Extracurriculars
-I’m part of my school’s marching band, symphonic band, cross-country team, mock trials team, Model United Nations team, History Olympiad, talented music program, local faith-based group (not run by the school, but we meet on campus), and “We the People” program (competition in which each school gives presentations showcasing their knowledge on the subject of constitutional government in the United States).
Of these, I have leadership positions in marching band, symphonic band, and a co-leadership position in the faith-based club. I’ve also been told by many in my class that I’m a shoo-in for class president if I choose to run for it later this year, which I will.
-By senior year, I expect to have leadership positions in the aforementioned band groups, the faith-based club, mock trials, History Olympiad, and possibly Model UN. I’ll be looking at 2-4 varsity letters, depending on what they give letters in now-a-days (I hear they often add new things and take some things out)
Community Service
-I have about 120 hours now and don’t plan to stop volunteering over the summer. I’m looking for a cause that I can devote all of my time to rather than just volunteering here and there, but work is work no matter who it’s for, and I’m fine with it as long as it’s helping others in some way.
Work Experience
-While this is technically volunteering, I wouldn’t call it service, as it didn’t help or hurt anyone. I volunteered on a presidential campaign earlier this year and am currently working with a Senate campaign. I’m only including this because it seems like it’d look nice on the resume of a person who wants to major in Political Science or go to Law School (depending on whether or not I can afford it).
Reccomendations
It’s a bit early to be talking about these, but I’ve hit it off really well with:
-AP European History Teacher (10/10, especially since I’ll have her for APUSH and AP World History)
-AP US Gov’t/Politics Teacher (8-9/10, since I will likely work closely with him if elected to Student Council)
-English II (this is REALLY shaky, but I’ll have him for AP Literature next year and his teaching style really clicks with my study methods. Can’t give a rating because of how shaky this is)
I know it’s a long read, but suggestions for improvement are EXTREMELY appreciated, since I have a lot of work that I can do before I have to apply.
Thanks to everyone who made it this far!
