If it means anything they gave me a fee waiver, not need-based.
For what itâs worth my dental hygienistâs daughter graduated from Eastern and absolutely loved her experience. It was so much cheaper than anything in NJ between institutional/outside scholarships and she was accepted to her first choice physical therapy program. She was sad the pandemic ruined her senior year though. Just an anecdote for one obscure school.
Iâm really glad your daughter had a great experience. Did she recieve aid or scholarships? I crunched some numbers and Eastern with scholarship is more expensive than Rutgers (in-state) for me.
Not my daughter, my friends daughter. Yes she was awarded a lot of institutional scholarships. Plus she got a lot of local to south Jersey ones as well. Her first year total COA was $7,000, it did go up for the last 3 years because no more outside money. Rowan came no where near her awards from Eastern. They had never heard of Eastern until a college fair at school and got a fee waiver that day and applied. I donât know how many total acceptances she got except the 2 named but it was the least expensive of all and being in Philly was a benefit for her.
Update #25,348: I was accepted to Adelphi U with a $108K scholarship
Waitlisted at Bates College.
Itâs great you tried - and you still have great opportunities thus far. Thanks for the update.
Considering how competitive they are I was surprised I even made it on the waitlist. Currently, here are my decision dates for my other schools: Case Western Reserve University-March 19th, Colgate University-March 23rd, Boston University-March 26th, GWU, Brandeis, Northeastern, Drexel-On or by April 1st.
Let us know - rooting for you
Thank you!
Rejected from Northeastern.
Reaches are unlikely - but you took you best crack and thatâs admirable.
Thanks for your kind words. Although I never held out much hope for Northeastern it makes me nervous that the chance of me going to a school that isnât a safety is getting lower and lower.
what do you mean getting lower and lower. Neastern is brutally hard to get into. Youâve got great entries already.
What I meant by lower and lower was that, so far, all the schools Iâve gotten into were safeties and the only way Iâll go to a school that isnt a saftey is if I get into CWRU, Brandeis, Colgate, or Boston. Right now it feels like Iâm just slowly losing that posibility of going to a more prestigious school.
Youâve been accepted to:
⢠Eastern with $18k/year in merit aid and direct admission
⢠Montclair State with direct admission
⢠Rutgers NB SAS
⢠Adelphi with $27k/year in merit aid
You have four nice options right now, with everything from a small private college to a big state flagship. There are thousands of universities in the U.S. and these schools had qualities that made them more attractive to you than thousands of others. Think back to why you picked these schools to apply to. What did you like about them? Dig through their websites, check their social media feeds, talk to current students, visit the campusesâŚfind out all the amazing options that each university has that you can take advantage of.
An acceptance (or rejection) from a highly rejective school that has 10-25x more qualified applicants than it can take is in no way a reflection of you and your potential. Once youâre in the realm of competitive enough to apply, itâs a numbers game. People who are in that league are going to be successful no matter where they go to school; itâs about the student, not the institution.
Love the ones that love you back. Four great options are showing you the love. You may get more love from more schools, or you may not, but happier people tend to view the glass as half full (four great acceptances) rather than as half empty (rejections from highly rejective schools). Be happy.
Prestige is made up, marketing, perception - not reality.
I went to Syracuse - somewhat prestigious. My MBA is Arizona State.
My boss went to Alabama State. Iâve had a boss who went to U of Phoenix
If youâre the cream, youâll rise whether you go to Harvard or Hofstra.
Rutgers = a very well respected name.
And Adelphi - they gave you $27K because they want and need you - you bring a lot more to the table - and they need you whereas a CWRU - youâre awesome - but so is everyone. So your hard work paid off.
@AustenNut is dead on. The issue is - everyone is trying to one up everyone.
Rutgers is not easy - and getting $27K a year from any college is quite a feat.
Keep your head up.
Not sure if you saw a post I wrote to you months back. I have not gone back to look at your background, but given your ED strategy, you should have a reasonable chance at Brandeis. Hope it works out for you.
Yesterday I reread all the responses from December. I understand that a rejection at one school doesnât define your chances at another school but it still makes me get in my chances of what if I did this and that differently.
Wow thank you both of you for writing this all up. I know that prestige is a scam but itsâs still hard to get out of the mindset that it defines how hard I worked during high school. I was pretty down yesterday from the rejection as well as stress with an important project in school for today but Iâm feeling a lot better and have a better mindset for moving foward with this process. Thank you again saying this.
