I recently applied to CAS and Gallatin and I really don’t know what my chances are of getting in.
I’m an international student currently studying IB at a pretty competitive school
GPA: 3.72/4 (however there is an upward trend from 3.59 in 9th grade to 3.8 in 11th grade)
IB: predicted 38/45
Recommendation letters: Great letter from my counselor, two teacher recommendations, and one from a professor at Harvard.
Personal essay: I’m pretty confident about this - spoke about living in a post-war country and how it connects to my charity work today
ECs:
Studied journalism, contemporary history and leadership at Oxford for two weeks during the summer (received two As)
Event organizer for school-based charity club (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade)
Led a community fund-raiser for disabled children in Peru (11, 12)

Shadowed chief economist at a shipping company (9)

Hi, Im applying ed2 to CAS. as an IB student myself, 38 is quite solid. Quite honestly the ECs are good too, the deciding factor would be how well you integrate them in your application and make them stand out. If you have managed to do that, you should get in

I would say you have a pretty good chance! Especially since you’re are applying via Early Decision - that will definitely boost your chances. Your ECs are also pretty good, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble. Good luck!
While your stats are good, I’d rank NYU as a match, nothing safe. While your GPA does have a nice upward trend, a 3.8 still isn’t stellar. While the letter of rec from a Harvard professor sounds nice, if they really do not know you, it might not have much of an impact on your chances.
Your personal essay might come off as a bit too showoffy, but your ECs look good.
Chance me?
SAT: 1400 (730 Reading/Writing, 670 Math)
Unweighted GPA: 3.86 (Note: I have a strong increasing trend in my GPA. If it weren’t for freshman year, I’d have a 3.96)
Weighted GPA: ~4.4
SAT II’s:
Math II:670 (Whoops XD)
USH: 710
13 AP classes taken thus far, taking 5 more right now, meaning a grand total of 18.
ECs:
Member of robotics club for 2 years
Member of tennis club for 3 years
Math Tutor for 2 years.
I’m applying to Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of Washington.
Thanks for your reply! I definitely don’t think my personal essay is showoffy (at least I hope not) + the professor knows me very well so hopefully that won’t be a problem.
I would say UCLA is a match and the University of Washington is a safe school. However, Stanford and Berkley are probably reach schools for you. Your GPA and SATs are pretty strong but your ECs may hinder your chances. Overall I would say you have a good range of schools. Good luck!
I think you have a pretty good chance getting into NYU, your GPA is pretty good and your EC’s are great as well. I don’t see any standardized test scores so I wouldn’t know but either way, I think you are an amazing candidate and you will surely get in. Plus your essays sound great. Please chance me back
