@Wilsonhsu1115 It’s very hard to chance you without a GPA and standardized testing scores.

Please note that NYU barely gives financial aid and UPenn and others are not needs blind to international applicants

Hello @EIC2400 Ive just checked and my senior gpa and its 3.5 even though all assessments in school is formative in nature due to thr IBDP.

So your current marks are significantly lower than your predicted grades? That’s not good.

A 3.5 GPA is very borderline at the schools you’ve listed. Not an automatic rejection, but pretty close.

You may want to reconsider that essay topic. My counselor on a ‘multiculturalism’ essay for international applicants: “Everybody writes about being a 3rd-culture kid.”

Definitely look at some match/safety schools. All your current targets are likely rejections even for students with perfect GPAs and top-flight SAT scores.

there’s no way someone can chance you without a GPA, SAT or ACT score. you should redo this once you get all your info if you truly want accurate predictions

Your IB score predictions are certainly quite good I have to say. Except your awards section isn’t really looking very flashy for someone who is trying to get into a pre-med course in the U.S. Let me put it this way, getting into pre-med at above universities is like 100203940302 times harder than getting into medicine here in Australia, which is already hard enough as it is. Like just being honest, I wouldn’t really count high distinctions in the AMC as being major awards, because most of the applicants to the top universities from Australia have prizes, medals etc. Same goes for the Biology Olympiad HD. I’m not saying that the awards are useless or anything like that, but they’re pretty normal for Australian students applying to the top US colleges. Especially since you’re applying as a pre-med major, which is one of the hardest to get into. Furthermore, for your extracurriculars I wouldn’t put the team challenge competitor part because it doesn’t really mean anything (assuming you didn’t win any major awards like top in the state or something). Oh and I’d just like to add that you shouldn’t be overly concerned with your GPA, because they will review your grades in context of your location (Australia) and school. I agree with the previous posters in saying that your chances are pretty grim right now. I don’t know how you plan on getting into med school in the US as an international student even if you get into pre-med. BTW I’m Taiwanese too, and applying from Australia so good luck to you

@NotVerySmart Yeah, I can see all your points with regards to gpa, essay topic, and backup schools. In terms of GPA, my high school results are not important though, due to that my course - IBDP - gives me a mark out of 45 (predicted at 44 atm) at the end and that encompasses all my official gradings , whereas my current results are only indicative and means practically, nothing. As to the essay topic, I am definitely going to change it, but its just that I have applied to NYUAD ED1 and am waiting for results before proceeding to write another one that is tailored for the rest of the unis I am applying to. Currently I have about 5 autralian unis lined up so thats definitely covered.
But I guess even then, my chances to the listed unis are low, so would I get greater chances applying for a more general course such as science?

@blu5959 Hey! Yeah, I understand what youre saying here, so do you think I will stand a greater chance applying to other courses, even though I am predicted IB 44 as of now? As with the award and ec section, would you think its a good idea to pretty much scrap them to get a better chance?
I mean I would love to get into any of those listed unis, but would my current stats be just simply too crap to make the cut?

IMO, you just need a stellar SAT score and you’ll be fine.

Is NYU good for Pre-med?

Well I think that your IB score is definitely impressive so that’d help, but in response to your question: yes applying to a general science course would make the whole process so much easier for you. It’s just that the international students who get into pre-med (hardly any do) all have something that makes them compelling, I mean lots of applicants have 2350+ SAT, 800 subject tests, volunteering, orchestra etc. so how do you stand out from the crowd? I think you need to think about what distinguishes you from all the countless other talented students from the world who aspire to attend these top universities. Your awards section is looking pretty average in my opinion, but if you’ve got nothing better to put then you might as well: something is better than nothing right? For the EC section, community fundraiser is your best one that looks semi-impressive, while orchestra demonstrates an interest in music (but let’s face it, a LOT of Asians are good at music). The Academic prefect kinda makes you look like a person who only knows how to study and got the position just by good grades, so in my opinion it might not be worth that much, but definitely put it down.

@Ahmad12345 Lol, I wish I could just know, I mean Im taking SAT reasoning for the first and last time in December… So literally make or break this december…

@crawleytownfc I have no idea, but my main goal is NYUAD ED1 :stuck_out_tongue:

@blu5959 Yeah, I can see what you mean now, and yeah, Im definitely not applying to Pre-med for the rest of my courses lol. Just for NYUAD and NYU, Ive already submitted, and they’re known for wanting IB students, as well as that there were already 2 students from grades above me accepted, so they love my school as well as IB. Thats where I truly want to be, and my common app is already submitted… nothing I can do there…
But yeah, thanks so much for the tips haha! I guess I have been way too arrogant in thinking that US unis will be easy to get into given good IB scores, but after CC, I can see it is everything but easy… Haha, thanks anyhow, and yeah, Ill definitely change it if I dont get into NYUAD  Since IB finals coming up next week!!!

No worries bro. Good luck and keep us updated on how you go

@blu5959 I will update you on if I get invited to the candidate weekend on here

@blu5959 Hey! I got a candidate weekend invite! Im not certain whether or not I may actually get admitted in the end, but I made it to the “interview” round!! I will let you guys know if I get in when the final admission decision comes out!!

@Wilsonhsu1115 that’s great to hear man! Feel happy for you, good luck in the interview round! This is for NYU Abu Dhabi right?

and where are you going for the candidate weekend?

@blu5959 Yeah, its for NYU Abu Dhabi! The candidate weekend is in Abu Dhabi, where the university fly you to their campus! Haha, I still cant believe it yet :stuck_out_tongue:
