If I am accepted to NYU or Stern I plan to major in Economics or Finance with a minor in Art History.

Can you please percent my chance?
Someone told me I have about a 16-20% chance of getting in.
I want to know other people's opinions.

Ehhhh, for stern I’d call it more like a 40% and for CAS a 50%+. Though if you do wish to raise your GPA, you must do it after the first semester because that’s the only point up to where colleges will take into consideration. Otherwise I’d suggest you just apply early decision with what you’re looking like now, which may actually help.

I suggest you take the SAT again in October because it’s on the lower end for typical Stern acceptees, but your ECs are pretty unique, so that would help.

I would say your chances at Stern are very slim. Your GPA is below average, as well as your SAT score, slightly. Your ECs are really interesting, but I’m not quite sure how the Admissions office would view them in terms of accomplishment as opposed to just something really interesting. I feel as though they would play a larger drawing point if you applied to CAS.

If you really want to attend Stern, my advice would be to apply to Stern for a slim shot as well as to other universities and transfer in. If you just want to attend NYU without any particular interest in Stern then apply to CAS and you can still try to transfer in your Sophomore year if you are still interested.

I think you have a good chance at NYU overall, but if you want to get into Stern, you’ll need to bump up your SAT score and your average.

If you’re not sure about your major, apply for CAS. It’s a more general school in terms of majors and fields of study. Your chances for CAS are higher than your chances for Stern so look into it. If your heart is still set on Stern by the end of your first or second year, then you can transfer.
