WOMEN OF TOMORROW (treasurer) -prepares female students for their future work life and assists with any problem they may have to face that may hinder them from performing at their full potential at school.
LATIN CLUB - appreciating the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome, along with volunteering and helping our community through Adopt-a-Street.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION (chair of public relations) - organized school activities such as Homecoming, spirit weeks, and pep rallies as well as promoted events for the club.
JUNIOR ACADEMY OF SCIENCE (activity chair)- a STEM-centered club focused on science and innovation. Worked on projects such as the Lincoln Drive Event and the STEM ideas festival.
BOOK CLUB - a club devoted to the appreciation of books through the reading as many as possible every year.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY - recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
TECHNOLOGY CLUB - focuses on appreciating and bettering the members’ technological skills. Some events include Hour of Coding and solving math/technological problems.
Volunteer Work -
SOUP KITCHEN- prepared and served daily meals, managed the kitchen, offered a pantry of food options to families in need and clothed the homeless.
HELP HER, PERIOD.- purchasing, packaging and distributing sanitary products for women in need. An organization I helped my counselor start, got noticed in the newspaper.
HUMANE SOCIETY AND ANIMAL CARE - cared for newborn kittens until they were socialized and ready to be put up for adoption.
Essays:
Common app essay - talked about how I grew up on an island and fell in love with technology while I was there, and how my world expanded when I moved to America. Talked about my passion for computer science and my struggle of being a female in the STEM field.
Why NYU?- I think it’s a good essay, spoke about the engineering department and how they support women in engineering, also spoke about my enjoyment of the diversity on campus, etc.
Letter of Recs:
Pretty good. One of my teachers is an alumni of NYU and knows me very well, as I spend an hour and a half with her every other day. Other teacher brags about me a lot and was really passionate about writing her letter.
Hooks:
first generation student, woman in engineering, diversity?
