Let me know if you want me to chance you back!

You seem like a phenomenal applicant and I’m sure your application will be outstanding. Your scores are flawless and you have interesting hobbies. That being said, you’re going to hate my answers. The schools you’ve listed are reaches for EVERY applicant, it doesn’t matter what they’ve done.

Yeah, they’re reaches for everyone, but you have a fantastic resume, so just nail those essays and you got definitely have a chance

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1653050-generally-where-do-i-stand.html#latest</a></p>

@dogsarecool123‌ - You are what I have started calling a “credentialed reach”. It only applies to the most super-selective schools, where you have all the attributes on paper, but so do far more applicants than they can possibly accept. So the odds are still low at any one HYPS school, but in aggregate your odds improve, yet are sill on the low side most likely. My own guess is that of these seven schools, you will get into at least one, but you do of course have to apply to some schools where your odds are a bit higher but where you still think you could be happy to attend. Vanderbilt, Northwestern, USC, WUSTL (odds might not be a lot higher there but you should still apply) are possible examples.

Are finances an issue?

Your gpa and rest scores are impressive! However, as mentioned, those schools are very selective, and it’s hard to say who’ll make it. IMO, I would say it’s a low reach for Duke but mid-reaches for Penn, Columbia, and HYPS!
Chance me back, please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1671352-please-chance-for-top-schools.html</a></p>

@fallenchemist. Finances are not an issue. I agree with the backup-but-still-outstanding-schools list. I was thinking northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, NYU, maybe Tufts? Do you think that sounds solid?

@dogsarecool123 - I do. If you apply to all those schools, it would be beyond shocking for you not to get at least a couple of acceptances, and I would think 4 or more. NYU at the very least LOVES full pay. Take a look at WUSTL, seems like it might be your type of school as well. Another thing about WUSTL is they don’t claim to be need-blind. Not sure about the others except for NYU, who also is not need-blind.

Do you like any of those schools enough to apply ED or SCEA/REA, depending on which they offer?

I think I would go SCEA to either Yale or Harvard (I have to do some soul searching on that one

@dogsarecool123‌ - have you been able to visit either? It is unclear to me if you are currently in the USA or you are in India attending what sounds like an American style school. But certainly a visit would help. It’s a tough decision for sure. But most would tell you that Harvard and Yale are not really so similar in many ways. Certainly New Haven is not Boston/Cambridge, and although NYC is quite accessible, it isn’t the same as having it be right there all around you. That is one thing at least. Whether it is positive (as I have obviously positioned it for Harvard), negative or a push is of course a personal thing.

I have a friend who didn’t get into Columbia, but was accepted into Dartmouth. Here were his stats
Sat 2s: (Chem 800, Physics 800, Math II 800, and U.S. History 800).
8 Ap’s - 5 on All
Sat - 2380 (1st Attempt)
Valedictorian
 Ivy’s are tough lol

@fallenchemist I’m in the US. I visited both, and though the campuses are different I feel like a lot of the core ideas of liberal arts opportunities. There are benefits of each that I just have to think about and weigh as far as majors and I just have to weigh the atmospheres of each.

@Ennnnn‌ That’s interesting. Did your friend apply to any other ivys? What were his results? Did he have a lot of extracurricular involvement? Thanks for the feedback.

Duke is more selective than Penn CAS.

@dogsarecool123 - For sure the academic offerings are similar. In fact that is true at dozens of schools and at a very high level. It is very rare a person can choose between these schools on that basis, especially as an undergrad. It really comes down to which campus environment overall, mostly outside of academics, feels right for you. Because despite all the rhetoric and the good-natured rivalry, Harvard and Yale are nearly academically indistinguishable for undergraduates.
