Hi guys...I would like your opinions regarding my chance of getting into Penn State University Park. I'm in-state. I have a 4.0 GPA out of a 4.0 scale according to the College Board gpa converter. I'm 67th out of 403 students in my grade. But my SAT score is on the low side, 1550, since i'm not a great test taker when it comes to huge tests. I have attended the Penn State Mini Medical School that they offer. Also, every monday i have a 2 hour class at the the penn state hershey medical school, (it's a program that i got accepted into), where current medical students give accepted high school students lectures. I applied as a pre-med major. Please let me know your opinions & thank you in advance!

How do you have a 4.0 when you’re 67th in your class? Serious grade inflation. But if its true, it certainly works in your favor - their website says that 2/3 of their admissions are based on your GPA. Their average is about a 3.6, so you’re above average.

With your extracurricular, you’re a strong candidate. I’d write a strong essay and hope for the best.

I have a gpa of 97.2094 now. My rank that I put on here was from last year when I had a 95.5882. The ranks weren’t updated this year yet so i wanted to give the most accurate rank i last had. One of my classmates has reached a 101 gpa & he is currently the first in our grade. Almost all of the previous valedictorians fom my school have had a 100 or above gpa. I guess my school is just filled with students who are really determined & eager to learn. Thank you again for sharing your opinion!!!

My friend just got declined today and he had a 4.0 but he was also out of state. But on the other hand, my cousin goes there and he had below a 4.0 and a bad SAT. I’d say you have solid chance considering you’re in state and your GPA is solid.

My son is at PSU. A few things. PSU tells you that they don’t read the essay. It’s optional.
Out of state doesn’t give you less of a chance. Their stats even show that students from all states and “XXX” number of countries are represented at PSU.

I think you have a great chance.
