I feel really weird doing this because I know there is so much more to the admissions process than scores and grades, but high school applications are opening soon and I want to have a good idea of, academically, how I stand compared to other applicants. So here I go:
School: I’m not sure if I should say but there isn’t much point anyways. It’s a public school and its not nationally acclaimed
or anything like that)
GPA: 4.0
Standardized Test Scores:
Map: 99%ile in both Reading and Math
PARCC: 5’s in both Reading and Math (which I assume is 99%ile for PARCC)
Extracurriculars
Track
Computer Science Club
Yearbook
Student Council (Treasure| Third in Rank)
Robotics Club
Greek Dance
Art Club
History Fair (A prep club for the competition)
Science Fair (A prep club for the competition)
*Note: Don’t worry I genuinely liked these extracurriculars. Maybe not robotics and coding so much but it was the
closest to a math club my school has to offer, which I should note is by far my favorite subject
Awards:
(2) State History Fair Supreme Recommendation (My group was runner up for Nationals twice in a row)
(1) Regional Science Fair 1st Place
(1) City Science Fair 17th place
(1) Citizenship Award
(2) Honor Roll
(1) Principal’s Award
*Note: There are probably more but those are the ones that come to mind and I feel are the most relevant
Class Rank:
I don’t know if my school actually calculates this or if I’ll even need it but based on my most recent standardized test
scores compared to my peers, my GPA, and the classes I took last year I would assume that I’m top in my class. (I
hope that didn’t come off as conceded)
SSAT/ISEE
I haven’t taken the SSAT yet but I took the high school level ISEE and I got a 9, two 8’s, and a 7. I don’t remember in
what areas.
Me:
In order to make this not purely based on numbers, I’ll tell you a little about me. I’m the son of two African American
immigrants. I’m not a follower per se but I don’t consider myself much of a leader (I’m being honest). It took me a while
to realize it but I LOVE math. The highest math class available at my school is Honors Algebra 1 but I’ve already taught
myself Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Pre Calculus. I also love reading (though I’ve noticed that as I delve into math I
haven’t been reading as often.) A part of the reason why i don’t consider myself a leader is because I’m way too
obsessed with being well liked. In high school, although I will still try to make friends out of everyone I meet, that is an
area I’d like to improve.) I consider myself a humorous person. I can be a bit silly and many of my friends say that my
first impression gives off a very different level of intellect than what I actually have. But part of the reason behind that is
my need to a create a balance between my academic and personal life. I’ve always thought that the best people to
work with are people who can help you and be your friend. I feel like these are all things I could incorporate into the
written portion of my application
Well that’s my the highlight of my application to two of the best schools in America. I genuinely want to go Andover. It seems like my dream school and not just because of the name. It’s a school where I feel like I can become the best me. I love learning and making friends and the idea of just experiencing a world beyond what i could have ever dreamt of. : )
