We’re in the same boat. I applied to PA last year (to 9th grade), but was unfortunately waitlisted. I reapplied for Fall 2021 as a 10th grader, but this time was rejected. I also applied to other schools, but was either rejected or waitlisted.
Thanks!! I’ll definitely consider that. Would you say if I decide to go to a school like Cranbrook, should I even consider giving schools like Lawrenceville, Exeter, etc another chance? Lastly, do you have any advice on getting of the waitlist?
Yeah I was pretty disappointed that I didn’t get into my top choices. I’m going to apply next year as a repeat 10th grader (if I don’t get into Andover), and hopefully gain admission. This time with the help of an education consultant that has a track record of getting over 90% of students into their top 3 choices, they have AO from Exeter, Andover, Groton, Deerfield, The Harker School, etc. I am also accelerating my learning by taking online classes because of the lack of rigor.
can u list out all the schools you applied to and their decisions?
Sure, sorry I’m just seeing this now.
Exeter- Rejected
Andover-Waitlisted (In shock, I had a great interview with an alumni who worked as an interior designer- which is what my sister majored in (for college), that, and English. I mentioned how I would contribute to the school, I highlighted my leadership from my childhood and how it shaped who I am now, along with having a literal 7-15 minute conversation about books lol)
Milton Academy- Rejected
Lawrence Academy- Waitlisted (I tried very hard on the essay portion, I feel like it was a major “wow” factor, I don’t think I will get in)
University of Chicago Laboratory School- Accepted (Very grateful for this, there are a lot of Mathletes that I contacted and they said the math classes were challenging so I would enjoy the math department; talked with some of the computer guys from the school and they were really well spoken and are using A.I and M.L in their classes which is a huge bonus)
IMSA- Waitlisted (Got a 1570 on the SAT, decent essay, qualified for AIME; lots of people in my area applied to IMSA so that didn’t help, but hopefully I can get off the waitlist!)
Do you mind sharing the consultant information as one of my friends is looking for one for private school?
Thank you!
If you actually end up re-applying I strongly suggest you do interview prep with an adult who is not a relative and who is willing to be honest with you. I suspect there’s something going on with the way you talk about yourself and “what you can do for the school” that might be rubbing people the wrong way.
I wonder if you are selling too hard. As an example, my daughter was on a team that almost won a national title, but I don’t think mentioned it in a single interview (this was a long time ago). All the coaches knew. She didn’t need to explain to the AO what she could do for the school.
Absolutely! It’s Solomon Admissions Consulting. I recommend going on their websites and checking out what they have to offer; strongly suggest to use the consultation with them to ensure that your friend will know what they’ll expect, and how the process works.
Thank you so much! Yup, I’m planning on going to the company TopInterview to work on that because I also feel that I kinda messed up in my Exeter interview. However, I did mention that I got top 12 in the nation for the academic decathlon with my math score, and when me and the alumni were scheduling the interview I told her that I couldn’t go on a particular date because I had a city championship for it so I think both of those worked in my favor, but the major setback were my grades I still feel like. I recently got accepted to the Brown Pre-College program and the Inspirit A.I summer program and forgot to mention that I went to Johns Hopkins CTY program 2 years ago so I will decide to incorporate that for my applications- just to be clear I was planning on going to these programs before I even knew about private school, so my intention is to not stat pad but to enjoy my summers in a meaningful way.
Thank you so much! Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!
