Chance Me For Princeton, Wharton (UPenn), Dartmouth, Cornell, Harvard, MIT

Hey everyone! I would love to possibly see what my chances are at a few universities that are my top choices as well as the programs that interest me there. I will chance back anyone who chances me.

-Harvard: Economics and Government
-Princeton: Economics, Woodrow Wilson, Political Science (also love their certificate programs in Values and Public Life, Teacher Prep, and Finance)
-Dartmouth: Economics and Government
-University of Pennsylvania: Wharton School (also considering Jerome T. Fisher program because the Networked and Systems Engineering program really interests me). My concentrations at Wharton would be Legal Studies and Business Ethics and, if I can fit it in, Business Economics and Public Policy.
-Cornell: Applied Economics and Management, possibly Industrial Labor Relations?
-Vanderbilt: Economics and Education...going for full ride as a Cornelius Vanderbilt scholar. Chances?
-MIT: Economics and Management Science. I really like the Concourse program.
-Pomona College: Economics, maybe PPE?
-Stanford: Economics and Public Policy

If you can't tell by my college choices, I want to somehow merge business, law, and teaching all together into one eclectic mix for a living. Ha!

GPA: 3.98 (only A minuses were in Freshman Year, the rest are all As) Class Rank: 97th or 98th percentile? Competitive class of 500.

But then only 10 people get to be chosen as Senators for their grade, and that group influences decisions made as a whole by the ASB. I am part of both groups.

-Performed in Carnegie Hall with my select Wind Ensemble (2012). The ensemble had to submit audition materials first.

I take a bunch of college courses through Coursera and EdX
-"Health Policy and ACA Studies" - UPenn

-"An Introduction to Operations Management" - UPenn
-"Organizational Analysis" - Stanford University
-"Introduction to Microeconomics Principles" - UPenn

All in all, around 700 hours of community service.

Any chances on these schools would be great. :) I will definitely chance back. My top three choices by FAR are Penn, Princeton, and MIT. I love those schools :)

dang! that’s a lot of ECs and rewards! You should be able to get into all the top universities!

bump bump bump

I also worked for a summer as a food summer at a local restaurant if that means anything haha.

Princeton, Wharton, Harvard, MIT - Reaches
Dartmouth, Cornell - Low reaches

You don’t understand the concept that these schools can not be judged so easily. But since you’ve taken so much effort to type everything out, I don’t wanna disappoint you. I’ll tell you what I think:

You have a perfect application. You have an almost perfect GPA, an almost perfect SAT score, crazy good awards and incredible ECs. So I think you will get into one of HYPSMC, don’t worry!

Thanks bud! I apologize if I came off as judgmental or something in my other “chance” posts; I was relaying information for expediency’s sake. College decisions seem really like the luck of draw nowadays and the essays are incredibly important.

Wow, you’re stats are amazing! I could see you getting into a lot of these schools. Most of them are reaches but I think Cornell and Vanderbilt are low reaches. I’m not too sure about Pomona and Dartmouth. Make sure you have safeties though. Good luck.

Oh yeah for sure! My safeties are the University of Washington and Washington State University.

I think your chances are really high and you are a really competitive candidate, but again, a lot of the people applying to those schools share similar stats with you. I know people like you who got into those schools so just make sure to emphasize how motivated you are in your essays! (:

I am also interested in business and law… (I do mock trial too so go mock trial! but I applied to BOA and didn’t get in :frowning: oh wells good luck to you! and chance back please? :D

For sure man! I will chance you right now.

You are hands-down one of the most incredible applicants I’ve ever seen. Kudos!

Princeton: mid reach
Wharton (UPenn): high reach
Dartmouth: low reach
Cornell: low reach
Harvard: high reach
MIT: mid reach

Good luck!

Wow! I think you have a pretty good shot at all of these schools.
But these schools talk so it’s likely you’ll get in one and not the other, but they are all great so good luck!

I think you have an ok chance at best…

bump bump

Really impressive stats! I think you have as good of a chance as you can considering how random admissions can be. Reach for all considering low acceptance rates

Of course we really have no way of knowing with ivies, but you are definitely a competitive applicant and should be able to get into at least some of these. GL :)

This will be just for Princeton since I know a lot about it (sorry about the others :P)
I live in NJ and we produce about average 2-3 people per year from my school that get into Princeton. That being said, most people who get into Princeton, AND ATTEND, are from NJ.

You MUST be specific when applying to Princeton. What school you want, what program, etc. They don’t beat around the bush, and I’m assuming most other top notch schools don’t either, so you might want to apply that. Do some more research and see how flexible the curriculums are, because the school may be prestigious, but you’ll have to do gen ed first year even though you took all AP’s, and you’ll only get to choose 5 classes.

Second, SAT is not high enough. MUST be 2400 for Princeton. It’ll be even tougher for you to get into Princeton if you’re Asian because you’re competing against OTHER Asians who are just as qualified.
But it’s good that you’re taking the most rigorous course work (and if you’re succeeding too, that’s good ;D).

Alright, for 4n6, they could give two ****s if you won first place freshman year. Our school has one first place in the past 12 years in the STATE, and multiple titles in nationals. The state awards I advise against listing, ESPECIALLY, DO NOT list the regional ones. You’re obviously qualified since you won national ones. List those, not the regional ones. Maybe the state one if you’re feeling cocky. (I’m 4n6 coordinator in my school).

Not too sure what TSA is, so I can’t comment on that…

On to clubs/leadership. Half of that is bull. Being a member doesn’t count unless if it is NHS (which can be listed haha). I GUARANTEE, that as soon as they see your resume of **** ton of EC’s and leadership’s, they’re going to throw your application in the trash. They want what is MEANINGFUL. WHY are you applying to Princeton? WHY are these the most important and not the other 10000000209384092374125-12790 ton clubs and leadership positions you hold important?
Since you’re obviously qualified in this, too, only put down the ones in which you’re president (shows that you have commitment and you’re able to win-win-win)
If you were president for one year freshman year, that doesn’t count though. You quit (unless if you tell a meaningful tidbit story about why you quit and how magical of an experience you had with whatever the **** you did).
For all the positions you held that are work-related, politics-related, good. That’s really important. Shows you can “get out there.” Put down TWO that you liked and had the most influence on you.

Nexxtttt. Playing at Carnegie Hall??? Wowwwww. PUT THAT DOWN.
Published research? Send it is as a “portfolio” sort of thing (Princeton actually requires something “special” like that).
You play guitar? They don’t care. TONS of people play with their bandmates at different gigs :P

I’ve done more community service hours than you, and I’m not even applying to Ivy’s. Don’t list it unless if it is important (seeing as you only put down the hours and not where, I’ll just assume it’s not…). Unless if you can tie it in with one of the co-hosting concert affiliations for africa, then it’s iffy…

PUT DOWN MODEL UN. IT IS HUGGEEE IN PRINCETON. And the fact that you did it for three years. Wow.
Put down the sports and the Pep Band. It’ll make you seem like the “yes, Princeton, I AM the normal high schooler that just-so-happens to have participated in everything possible that is intellectually stimulating. I have exhausted everything and you will give me more than what I want. take me” sort of deal.

Courses: decide which are the most important. Put two down and why.

Lastly, for anyone who thinks I sound harsh: They get OVER 21,000 applications per year. Do you know how many they accept? They only accept about 1,900. And most of them are from NJ. Don’t forget international students, too. You don’t have to be the best, you have to be the best from your state. I was typing from the point of view from one of the admissions officers.
I have three good friends who go to Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, and UPenn. Since those are lower than HYP, I think you have a chance (they did less than you and got in… two of them were actually lazy so idk?). Again, with all the top schools, you’re BOUND to get into one, but it may not be the one that’s in “your top 3.”
Good luck
pm if you have any other questions, sorry if it seemed overbearing :P

lol i sounded like a *****, don’t judge me it’s 2 am

Wait, so being a Senior Staff Writer for a political organization at the state level and being Vice President of a National CTSO does not mean anything?

I am applying to Princeton because their interdisciplinary program with Economics and human development at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs as well as their certificate programs give me exactly the exposure to both the theoretical and practical aspects of public policy I want in order to shape a career in legal analysis. I know what I want to do at Princeton and why I want to be there.

Thank you for your honest feedback though. I highly appreciate it.

Oh and all the clubs I was an officer for, I stayed in all my years in high school. I just didn’t choose to run for leadership again.

Why are you even asking people to chance you! Your stats are amazing and you can most probably get in to most if not all of the schools. You just need to write great essays and you’re in. And I wouldn’t doubt your writing ability - your debate awards are proofs of your strong linguistic skills
