Essays:
-Nothing mindblowing: wrote about music and also how I want to be an engineer to help people, volunteer abroad, etc. They're at least well-written if nothing else

My main concern is that I don't have enough math/science-y ECs for someone who wants to be an engineer :( Here are the schools I've already been accepted to/rejected from just for reference:

Accepted:
-Tulane U (Presidential Scholar)
-WPI (Presidential Scholarship)
-RPI (Rensselaer Medalist)

Rejected:
-MIT (Deferred EA, Rejected RD)

Chance me for:
-Rice U
-Carnegie Mellon U
-Columbia U (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences)

Thank you. I'll chance back in return if I can

How did MIT reject you?!? In the unlikely even of not getting into your 3 right now, I would recommend WPI if you like nuclear engineering.

Rice and Carnegie have a much better chance than columbia, and yeah whats going to kill you is the engineer ECs. Like if you had been a member of the robotics team the you would have a sure bet in getting accepted.

Why would you do a chance thread when you will know in a few days? Relax, occupy your mind with something else. You are driving yourself crazy.

Trust me, I’m not driving myself crazy :p

Just curious what my chances are. I honestly take failure pretty well. I was surprised how relaxed I was when I found out I was deferred and rejected from MIT. Also, I’m not sure decisions are out in a few days…more like a few weeks haha. Well, maybe Rice is in a few days

Most schools don’t wait until the last day, but not sure about Columbia. You certainly have a good shot at any of them, but admissions is sometimes an unknowable dark mystery.

I post about Tulane a lot, and if you are happy to study physics then it could be a good fit. Be aware they have a “3+2” program where you can get a physics degree from Tulane and an engineering degree from either Johns Hopkins or Vanderbilt, with 3 years at Tulane and 2 at the other school. If that sounds interesting to you, talk to the Dean of Science and Engineering and get details before you make any major decisions. He is a very nice guy. Otherwise, if money isn’t too much of an issue, I would go with Rice if you get in.

I’m definitely going to look into Tulane some more. The main reason I applied was because they waived the application fee. But they’re offering me $25,000 a year so it’s now moved into the realm of possibility for me.

Rice was my second choice. I think maybe if I get in I’ll try and visit Rice and Tulane on the same trip (4 day weekend or something) because I’m from NY and it’s expensive to travel that far.

I think that is a great idea. Both beautiful campuses. If you do make that trip (cheap flights from New Orleans to/from Houston on Southwest, btw), please do yourself a favor and make an appointment to talk with Dean Altiero. He can go over the different options with you in detail. You could also consider making an appointment with Dr. Luongo, head of the Honors Program, if you desire more info about that.

Or here is a thought. There is an Honors Weekend coming up soon, April 11-12. That’s a Sunday and Monday, with an overnight in a dorm with a student-host. That way you could learn more about the Honors program, see the campus, get to know people, attend a class or two, register for classes (doesn’t matter if you haven’t decided to go yet) and talk with Dean Altiero. Then you could fly Monday evening to Houston and see Rice on Tuesday. From Houston there would be lots of flights back to NYC. Just a suggestion.
