Recently applied Rice ED. Also am applying to Northeastern, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, UIUC, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and UMich.
Demographic: Asian Male out of state for all
Major: Computer Science
ACT: 33 (Retook in October hoping for 34+)
Subject Tests: Math II 800, Chem 670
GPA: 3.9333/4.2 UW, 4.9617/5.4 W
Rank: 11/~500
ECs: -Tutor for a nonprofit that goes to low tier elementary schools and teaches advanced STEM concepts. Volunteered over 250 hours. Also solely created an iOS app for these kids to use and published on App Store.
-Director of one of the largest hackathons in the region.
-Cofounded a charity that sends funds to children in Africa so they can get textbooks.
-Created my own computer science course online with users in over 25 countries.
-President of school’s Science Olympiad Club, achieved 3 awards in 3 years at the state level.
-President of school’s Entrepreneurship Club.
-Youth volunteer for a state organization [redacted] that goes to local soup kitchens and runs charity events. We donated over $10k in 3 years.
-Member of school’s TSA chapter, achieved two awards.
-Member of school’s math team, selected to be on the travel team (top 1/3).
-Volunteer at city’s public library.

The UC’s do not provide any funding for non-residents. Can you afford $60K per year.
Also, CS is impacted; as a non-resident, you don’t get priority.

Weakness is test scores, strength is ECs

You’ve got a decent chance at Rice.

Decent chance at all. A 34 on the ACT would make a significant difference.

You have a good profile. Your SAT II Chemistry is low though.

But at least you got a 4 on the Chemistry AP…

I meant that I took 4 AP classes that year, didn’t say scores for any AP exams

i think you’ll definitely get into rice, but you can’t really say anything 100% in college admissions. you have a good list and if you for some weird reason don’t get into rice i think you’ll get into a couple other of your choices. good luck!
