Hi everyone!
As of now, I’ve been conducting lots of my university related research on Reddit, but it almost seems as if everyone on those subreddits seem to be perfect students, so I came here.
Could someone please chance me for UNC Chapel Hill, UVA, and UIUC? Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
DEMOGRAPHICS:
Rising Senior, Male, Asian, Middle class family, I live in Hong Kong SAR. However, I am a US Citizen, and I will not be considered as an international applicant for UVA and UIUC (not sure about UNC though, I will need to ask).
I go to a fairly competitive international high school, which does not rank us. However, I’d estimate that I would be in the top 25% (Class size is about 220 students).
I have legacy at UNC, both my parents went there - just something that might be helpful.
INTENDED MAJOR:
Astrophysics at UIUC and UVA, Physics at UNC
TEST SCORES:
ACT: 30 (30E, 29M, 30R, 29S) - will retake in September
SAT Subjects: Physics - 610 ( 
), will retake Physics as well as Math II in October
GPA: N/A, school does not use GPA (however, an educated guess would say around 3.5-3.7)
COURSEWORK:
I am taking the full IB Diploma, and currently my predicted score is 34/42. Courses are graded out of 7, 7 being the highest score one can achieve.
Higher Level:
- Physics (6)
- English Language and Literature (6)
- Theatre Arts (7)
Standard Level:
- Mathematics (5)
- History (5)
- Spanish (5)
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
- School Rugby Team, started sophomore year
- Club Rugby Team, also started sophomore year
- School Spanish Mentoring Programme, started junior year and intend to continue this year
- Co-directed a full length play, worked with younger students
- HKAYP Bronze Award (equivalent to the Duke of Edinburgh award, which is basically hiking and outdoor activities)
- Two summer courses (Calculus and Physics) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Sports retail store during my freshman year (all freshmen at my school had to find a job, I received a glowing report)
- Summer Internship in a Physics Research Lab at HKUST
ESSAYS/REC LETTERS:
- I have been working hard on my essays, but I’m not sure if they stand out, would estimate about 6 or 7/10
- Will ask my Theatre teacher (who likes me very much) and Physics teacher (likes me as well) to write recs, maybe 8/10?
I’ve got a lot to work on this year, I need to do a lot more volunteering and get my academics up in general. I will also need a lot of financial aid as both my brothers are applying to college with me (note that we are identical triplets - could this play in our favor?)
