I am applying to Stony Brook, Albany, UB, and Oneonta. Just wondering how you think I stand as an applicant. I really want to go to Stony Brook.

I'm Hispanic if that helps fluff my poor reading and writing scores.
Act: not sending but I had a 23.
GPA is about 3.6 or 90.

For extracurriculars I am an assistant manager at my job over 1000 hours. I went to Stony Brook in summer 2011 for SARAS program. I played an instrument in concerts and marches. I also ran on Varsity Cross Country and rowed on Varsity Crew both for 2 years. I am in math club. I took AP Bio last year and I'm taking AP Chem and AP Calc BC this year. I have a big upward trend from freshman year until now in terms of GPA.

Oneonta & Albany - no problem. UB - should be a match. My son got in ED (into engineering program, too) with 3.2 GPA and 660 Math/640 CR. Stony Brook has a habit of being very number conscious, but a good essay that manages to bring in language issues to explain low CR # on SAT AND some really good recommendations AND URM should be the bump you need. Binghamton may be a reach, expecially if you’re trying to get into any “special” programs, i.e. business, nursing, or engineering.

Thanks for the feedback. My essay is pretty good I think. I had one of my teachers that has a PhD in linguistics and ancient language help me revise it.
