chance me for Stanford and others... I'll chance you back

Stanford's my first choice, but I've heard that the applicant pool is WAY tougher if you apply EA. I don't know if that's true, that's just what i've heard. Anyway, I guess I'll get right to it... Here's my stats, let me know what your opinion is on whether or not you think I'd have a shot going EA, or just applying regular deadline.

SAT/ACT: 2120 SAT, 33 ACT (first try for both)

class rank: 6th out of 350

GPA: 4.42 weighted, [one B+ in HS, all the rest A's (no A-'s, only A's and A+'s)]

Course Load: will finish HS with 10 AP's, basically hardest possible course load

AP's: 5's on all four AP tests so far, AP Scholar with Honor

EC:
4 year member, 3 year officer, and current President of Future Business Leaders of America
Senior Class Officer
VP of French Honors Society
Secretary of Key Club
Member of NHS
French Club and Math Club member
roughly 100 volunteer hours, with Key Club and Habitat for Humanity
Contributor and Syndicated Writer for big sports website Bleacherreport.com
3 years of rec baseball and basketball while in HS

Awards:
attended Governor's foreign Language Academy for French in VA in summer 2010 (competitive/prestigious program)
National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist
tons of various yearly school subject awards (about a dozen?)

Major Interest for College: Civil Engineering

Oh, and another thing. I'll be taking the SAT and ACT again before the regular deadline (but NOT before the early deadline because I'm taking subject tests in October), and I'm pretty confident that I could at least land in the high 2200's on the SAT (i got 230 on the PSAT), and maybe get a 34 or 35 on the ACT (if I could just do better on the stupid Science, haha).

Other schools I'm interested in are Rice, Vanderbilt, Duke, WUStL, and UVA (it's in state), roughly in that order. So if you don't think I've got any real chance at Stanford, what do you think of my shot at those others?

Thanks in advance, and just post a link for your chances thread if you'd like me to chance you back.

I think you have a legit shot at getting into Stanford, the only thing I would change is get that SAT score up like 50 points or that ACT scores up 1 point composite. Also, it might be good to tell us what race, gender, and family income.

Chance me back? I have a thread a few pages back for me and a friend.
Thanks!

Weak ECs and test scores will make Stanford a big reach.

Again. Nice academics but, nothing really stands. You have a chance thought but, please do what sax said so we can make a better judgement of you.

I’d wait for higher scores and apply RD. Stanford tends to reject rather than defer SCEA candidates they don’t admit.

lol, i dont think being a writer for bleacherreport is a EC you want to report

I say apply RD if you think the EA pool is tougher. Your stats are great so you definitely have a legit shot. Chance me? My thread is “What Chance Do I Have”

You seem to be a pretty solid candidate. You won’t be immediately cast out of the applicant pool, but like others have said, there’s nothing too special there. Hooks like being an URM or a first-gen college student could help.

I’m also applying to Stanford REA.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/978236-chances-stanford-rea-mit-cmu-others.html

princemuzic-no offense, but your analysis of his chances is highly flawed and not very useful. His stats are not great-esp his test scores-although they are def above average. no one really has a “legit shot” at stanford.

I’m pretty sure I can get a good improvement on the SAT scores, so that will be good i guess.

As for race/income, that’s not gonna do much to help me: I’m white, and though I’m not totally sure about income, I live in Loudoun County (Northern VA)- one of the richest, if not the richest, counties in the nation.

Oh, and any opinions for my chances at the other schools on the list? Rice/UVA/others?

if you can raise your SAT score, then you have a much better chance (im in the same boat in terms of test scores btw). From what peopel have told me-i think that Rice/UVA are definite possibilites if you write a good app!

yea ive heard something about getting all your components above 700… not sure how true it is tho

You have a shot but not a great one. You’re SAT, even at 2200+, would be subpar
Also, you have no really “great” awards/EC
Remember, your against valedictorians, USAMO, Intel, Siemens, RSI, and people with special talent AND with better numbers

But again, with Stanford you never know. I had a friend of mine last year get in but got rejected from UCSD, UCLA, and UCI. He only got into Berkeley because he applied to the College of Natural Resources. He planned on going to Haas after 2 years but ended choosing Stanford.

You have a chance in my opinion. You got leadership (which Stanford stresses on), good rank, and good gpa. Only thing I might suggest is to increase volunteer hours. It wouldn’t hurt. Other than that, looks good. Also a good SAT score. Overall, well-rounded applicant

Chance please.

iagree with columbiny, there are incredible peopel applying to these schools-however, dont forget that RSi composes about 50-60 people, USAMO AND intel/siemens altogether-maybe 300? Im not entirely sure-the point is that if you can set yourself apart with essays-it’ll help-but stanford is very very difficult

score higher on the sat and/or act and you’re a likely candidate. no one, no matter how qualified, can be certain about stanford but you’re in the game.

chance me!
