Thanks!!

bummppppp :D

Do you go to SAS? I think I might know you...

Anyway, I'd say you've got some pretty good chances at all schools, but since I'm still an underclassman I don't think I'm in a position to make a very accurate judgment here. Nice awards, by the way =P

lolz who r u.. i dun wanna reveal my stats to sas ppl :p

looks around I'm not sure if I should reveal my identity in a public forum like this... but anyway I go to SAS.

lol...gay...
why isnt anyone "useful" replying to my thread

Well with a 4.0 unweighted, it's all luck. There's nothing negative I can think of.

Stanford - pretty High Reach (fact that you are from Singapore...its gonna be very tough)
Duke - wouldnt know...but probably a reach
JHU - low reach - very close to match
Cornell - low reach
Columbia - wouldnt know
UPenn - depends which school...Wharton would be a High Reach...other schools would be a Low Reach
MIT - pretty High Reach (very hard for sporeans)
MIT and Stanford are probably the most competitve for a Singaporean at the moment...especially since the last few MIT classes have only taken 4-5 Singaporeans (i m guessing its about the same for Stanford)...and as unbelievable as this may sound...your application is no different to most singaporean applicants.
I personally don't believe that you HAVE to be an olympiad medallist to make MIT or Stanford...but all other Sporeans on this website make it seem like its fairly close to a necessity. Apparently, the lesser impressive of the MIT admits from Spore had a bronze medal in an International Olympiad...thats the rumour. That is why I see stanford and MIT as higher reaches for you. But to comfort you, if you were in any other country, you would have much stronger chances. Then again, your math and science wouldn't be as strong.
Being International sucks...i've been there. But seriously, apart from these two schools...you have a very good chance!!!

Good Luck

oh I'm not a Singaporean...
would that change my chances?

and also, my counsellor told me Duke isn't a reach for me... Maybe low reach..

I was thinking only Stanford and MIT are my high reach schools

is JHU a reach because I'm applying as a BME major?

exp. pls

since you are an asian applying from singapore, you will most likely be put in the singaporean pool...especially since the mix of skills you bring to each school is effectively math/sci awards. I am Indian, but I applied from Australia, and I am pretty sure I wasn't put in the indian pool. I think you will be put in the Sporean pool because thats the environment you were schooled in, and it would be unfair to compare you with kids from your home country because they have probably been schooled in a different environment. The colleges will look at all Sporeans, have the environment in perspective (opportunities, academic pressure, etc) and analyse who made the most of their opportunities. That will help judge who is the best fit for the respective college.

I don't know much about Duke...so ur counsellor is probably right. But with JHU, it can be extremely competitive for BME...since they are pretty damn reknowned for it.

Remember, being international is a disadvantage for top schools, being singaporean is a further disadvantage for top schools.

As i said, you should make JHU...but since BME is a competitive major, i had to be cautious and say its a very low reach - match! I dont see you not making it though :)

hi there, impressive portfolio! all the best for applications. i'm applying to some of those schools listed by you as well, what i've heard is that olympiad medals really don't matter even if you are a triple olypiad gold winner. but i guess, your being active in ECAs will make a difference.

hi, nice portfolio there... anyway i think your chances depend on whether you are an american citizen or not. if it's the former you probably have much higher chances since there's a "quota" for international students (matt from mit is pretty candid on this)

yeah, from what i know singaporean admits/applicants to mit are highly competitive... 2 years ago the only singaporean mit admit was an icho gold medallist (plus super competitve in other areas) and 3 years ago was pm lee's son, who's incidentally an ipho bronze medallist ><

good luck!

1234d is right...being an american citizen makes it much easier. In fact, i remember reading a disclosure statement by MIT which said that they do have a preference for students with a green card or citizenship over international students.

dou...i really wish it olympiad medals didnt matter...but it looks like they do only for singaporeans applying to MIT/Stanford....i hope the OP is the first of many to break that trend!!!
(basically, if you didnt realise...i m against admissions based on academics only)

well... not all of them have olympiads though... last year there's this guy (loneoceans.com) who got in. i guess his passion for science showed through his building tesla coils/rail guns etc XD

SAS eh?
I think I know who you are...

duke is a reach for anyone...you might be impressive...but duke isn't a low reach at all...i know...

good chance. But, just be ready if your not accepted to your top choice. Those schools are one of the hardest to get in. They are VERY selective and thousands of students (many with the same achievements as you) apply and still don't get in. Good luck to you though. Duke is an amazing university - very beautiful too.
