CHANCE ME for Steinhardt EDII PLEASE!

Hello, I'm an Senior from California applying to NYU EDII. Steinhardt for Media, Culture, & Communications. NYU is my top choice, and I'm wondering if i'll have a chance.

ACT: 30 (superscore) English 32, Math 29, Reading 32, Science 25
*planning on taking Dec ACT, hoping for 30 or 31 composite which will raise my superscore to possibly a 31

Our goal is to create a Girl's Leadership Conference in Spring 2012 and invite 200+ girls from around the county to teach them leadership skills and bring in local leaders.

-I'm worried about my GPA, but I'm hoping that my extracurriculars/essays will help out my application.
-GPA is low b/c I moved every year of high school (within the school district) due to financial issues, which left me with a huge burden. This might be explained somewhere in my application, but would it help?
-I might submit a music supplement.

Chance me please! Thank you!

Unfortunately, your chances aren’t that great. Your GPA and SATs fall below the 25% average for 4 year programs at NYU:

Grade Average: A- (Somewhere between a 3.6 and 3.7 GPA)

SAT Critical Reading (middle 50%): 630-730
SAT Math (middle 50%):650-750
SAT Writing (middle 50%): 660-750

ACT with Writing (middle 50%): 29-31

Percent of Students with Ranked in:
Top Tenth of Class: 77%
Top Quarter of Class: 96%

Your GPA is what is going to be hurting you the most. It’s possible you might get LSP’d but because that became a directly applicable to program, even LSP is going to start to be quite competitive.

thanks for the response. Do you know if they’ll take into account my senior grades? I’m doing extremely well right now and my GPA could become a 3.7 if NYU cares about my first semester grades…

If you’re doing EDII they’ll look at your first quarter senior grades, just not if you were doing EDI. If you had a great first quarter that will help you, but I’d still say somewhat of a reach. If you knock the essays out of the park, who knows!
